I'd rather be racing..

I've got an "unofficial" update since I'm not at the datacenter & I don't want to interrupt the guys working. It looks to me that we're up to "m" in the restoration. I'll post anything else I find out from the DC as I have it.

Carly - I am "C" and not up.

Carly,

The site in question is clcphotography.com - Was the letter "C" skipped for any reason?

Thanks,
Phillip

Hmm, 'M' is about midway through the alphabet, 4 hours ago, we had "more than half of the domains back on the server". Are we moving back in time?

I don't think you can make a good guess of time by using the letters in the alphabet that it's on since you would have no idea how much content is under each letter. The amount of files on the server is not equally distributed among the letters in the alphabet. 'B' may have 6 times the content of 'O'.

Sites may not be displaying since the content transfer is taking a toll on the server's load. I also don't believe all of the IPs have been added back yet either. Everything will be fully functional once the restore is complete.

Neither my "C" nor "F" seem to be working. Usernames or site url's. Does this mean all sites will be down until all is completed?

Sorry, I meant my nameserver domain. unix14.hsphere.cc is resolving normally, but unix14.mynameserverdomain.com is not. This has happened before, and none of my sites on the affected server was resolving then.

Alright, so the word is that the backups are being loaded at 8 this morning (3 hours ago) it was at 25%... why is it that you are unable to give an eta? Seems like a simple enough math problem.

Looking at the time between the postings, it's 10% per hour, which means another 5 hours to go... Just wondering, are there ways to better prepare for situations like this, like having a backup disk ready?

You can't do an ETA based on the %, smaller files can take a LOT longer, you could have 100 small files that make 1MB or just 1MB file, the 1MB file will move a LOT faster then 100 small files. This is why we can't and don't give a ETA because its very hard to tell.

If everyone just had 100 50MB files we would be done but we are talking 1000's of small files so it takes a little more time.

That's why the E in ETA is "Estimated"

Yea but a lot of customer don't think about the E sometimes and then we starting really bad slack for saying 2 hours and it takes 4 hours. We are going as fast as we can, really can't make it faster then 1GB on the network.
