One of the websites I manage is for members of an organization who want to access their @mail accounts from their place of work. Unfortunately the workplace computers allow access to the internet but are set up to block web mail accounts (Surf Control program). Our previous hosting company utilized IMail as their email provider and somehow they were able to access that account. My question is...does anyone know a way to back-door the @mail accounts so that the Surf Control program will not block access? I am obviously a newbie and this is way above my head, Thanks in advance to anyone who can help...

Have you verified that their SurfControl actually does block access to Vortech's @Mail? When filters like that block "web mail", that usually means the popular free email sites like Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.

I should have stated that I work for the same organization and I too am unable to access my webmail account at earthlink. The message we receive is "All internet e-mail sites have been blocked". How does the program know the difference between a web site and and email site?

Hmm... I guess I don't know. I worked with SurfControl some years back and I thought it used the web site address to determine this. I wouldn't have thought that Vortech's @Mail would be in there.

You could ask your network admin to whitelist the site for you.

It may well just use a list of the major webmail programs and be looking at specific HTML strings to identify the site as being webmail, much like the way virus programs use "signatures" to detect viruses.

I would disable earthlink software components. They cause lots headaches. Don't need them to use an email or web acct.

Your network admin probably won't unblock the site unless they can strip attachments off of incoming email.
