It's nice to finally have an up to date cluster, but is there a particular reason for running a RC of of the next FreeBSD on unix4? I thought you guys wanted stable versions of everything.

Actually, the new unix4 box was test running 4.9-RC. Then the old box went down in flames before its scheduled replacement time and the new one had to be drafted into service as was. No time to roll back the OS.

My experience with FreeBSD RCs is that they're every bit as solid as -RELEASE. I've often run -STABLE, -PRERELEASE and -RC on production servers in the past and, if I prefer to use -RELEASE it's for reasons of uniformity in a multi-server environment rather than performance or stability.
