Mail Service

Hi there I'm currently looking at changing my reseller host, and have been reading the posts and everyone seems happy with Matrixreseller.com. However one issue I have that I would like to address, is I live in New Zealand so we are approx 16 hours ahead of the US, during business hours 8-5 its evening in the US which is when the servers backups are done, with our current host who is also located in the US, the backups cause us to lose approx an hour or two service but only while the backups are taking place. This is kind of serious to us as our customers are now losing approx an hour to 2 hours email, I mean completely it seems to vanish into the ethernet, and also while the backups take place the web sites are intermittant i.e. you may get a page or a page not found. Our host says this can't be helped and that he has the same issue, now and then but it just can't be helped, our previous host never had this problem as they were based in New Zealand but offered very limited services.

Anyhow can anyone tell me if the above is true and that if I do host with a US based hosting company suchas here, that I can expect problems with mail and other services while the backups are taking place. My main concern is email, although the websites are also a problem, I'm worried about my customers, customers getting bounced messages.

Don't worry about the backups interupting any services here as it just doesn't happen, the servers all keep on ticking along all day long usually .

We probably have a higher concentration of kiwi's than US citizens around here, on a per capita basis.

I know of 4(or 5?) that are forum regulars, and there are many(resellers in general) that never post in the forums.

Just so you know our backups are simply coping files across the network to a backup server, the servers do not have to go offline for this to be done. Because we have 2 backup servers ( Terabytes of storage, as a geek I love these things) they are backing up servers all day long so there isn't a "blackout" period where everything has to goes offline.

The actual coping of the files is done by the backup servers and the compression of the data is done by the backup servers, so the web server suffers very little in the way of a performance hit during the backups.


And on a side note, we are here all night so you kiwis can call us during your day time so no need to stay up late to talk to us oh the phone, as far as long distance goes I can't help you there
