Hi Ramjet,
I cannot PM or email you so resorting to this form of contact. I see you are in NZ and so am I. Regarding nameservers i would like to know how you got around the Domainz thingy and if there is a real way around them.. I was going to setup a .com address and use that as my nameservers to get around a few problems but will this still give me a problem if the nameservers have to change ip address? or can we just tell Domainz the new IP's and it will go through? I would also value you views on Vortech /Matrix as I amlooking at a sign up this week you can PM me or email me at mike_clx_@hot_Mail.C_om (please remove all underscores from this email address ![]() Thanks for your time, Regards, Mike Last edited by MikeClx : 01-26-2003 at 02:57 PM. |

Oh the thingy where they wont reg nameservers.
I want to point mydomain.co.nz at ns1.mydomain.co.nz but this wont work as far as i can tell as mydomain.co.nz wont resolve I had this on another host and it did not work so i assume it wont here either.. |

I had no problem initially setting mine up, though I just noticed yesterday that instead of my nameservers being registered as
ns1.kiwihosting.net.nz/ns2.kiwihosting.net.nz that domainz records show them as "ns.4dserver1.com" instead which as far as I can tell is another Vortech customer. I can't even update them now they just keep going back to the ns.4dserver. Whats worse is that now the contact information for that domain has also been mapped to mine and I can't change that either !! grrr I must admint this is definately far from acceptable and I've already emailed Domainz about it. As far as I know though, you dont need the nameservers registered with them anyway, as long as they resolve to an IP they let you put them in there (which is probably the whole reason I now have this problem I guess). From what i can gather from these boards everyone is sharing IP's for their nameservers and I beleve this is a real no-no as you end up with these sort of problems. If i try to resolve kiwihosting.net.nz i get 65.57.227.81 if i try to resolve 65.57.227.81 I get a blank. if I resolve ns1.kiwi.... I get 65.57.231.100 and ns2 gets 65.57.231.120 the other way around (resolving IP-Name) I get mail.hsphere.cc and ns1.hsphere.cc respectivly this all sounds wrong to me, i beleve you can get host not found errors if you do this. At my last host i had my own ip's for my nameservers.
BTW do your nameservers or some other ones appear under your customers Domain names? Good luck with Domainz they dont even know which way is up!. I would like to know if any .com'ers here have the same problems and if they have tried reverse lookups on their allocated IP's. It would be good if an Admin could jump in here but I guess we are in the wrong thread now. I love the IP movie on the site and would like to see a full DNS one as well Mike Last edited by MikeClx : 01-26-2003 at 02:42 PM. |

Yes we know about the issue with some registrar's we will be offering your own Ips on the 2 higher plans so if your from overseas you can still use our systems.

Not sure they are bulding that in.. We will be able to control what plans get it but can't do it per user as of yet thats why we will offer it on the higher plans..

Mike, hi.
My domain is a .net, so I didn't have any problems registering or changing my nameservers with directnic, who don't require ip numbers, just names. However with (#$%** stupid %$#@@ Domainz), it is necessary for all clients to change the ip details of my nameservers if they already have them listed, and their system won't do it. To their credit I rang them and they sorted it out for my ONE client very quickly, but if in the future my nameserver ips change, then EVERY one of my (by now) million NZ clients will have to go thru this painful process. Matrix??? they're GREAT. H-Sphere??? so bloody inconsistant as to make me cry, but I think its getting there. I'd go for CPanel if I were you, or wait to read what effect the soon to come H-Sphere upgrade is having on everybody. My 2 cents. Brangwyn, try ringing Domainz (they've got an 0800), the tech staff are good via phone. Also Brad, Mikes right about 65.57.231.100 resolving to mail.hsphere.cc, do we only have one nameserver machine now? What happens when that goes down? And is it your intention to change these nameserver ips in the future (please say no!!) |

Problem is I need ASP
.I had HC2002 on my last host but that sucked too. Would be good to resolve this DNS/NS's thing. I dont want to end up like Brangwyn with my customers pointing at someone elses NS's and contact details.... |

Whats HC2002?
I'm sure Domainz will rectify it for Brangwyn, in that case try H-Sphere, it'll take time to "get to know" As the system works at present its all shared ip on domain name servers, so all are 65.57.231.100 and 65.57.231.120. and these (used to be??) ns.hsphere.cc and ns1.hsphere, which then alias to your nameserver names. Brangwyn's "65.57.227.81 I get a blank" is because he's using a shared ip for his site, and so the ip only resolves to the hsphere system. H-sphere is a namebased DNS system generally (the system resolves rather than the DNS servers). Its good, but its still glitchy. Domainz is the real problem, i'd talk to them for some insight, or avoid them if you can (although you're not in control of your future customers). In NZ cases, dedicated nameserver IPs would sure be easier. Cheers, murray. |

Hosting Controller its another Win2k C-panel but don't go there...
If you lookup your IP do you get your domain back? I have had no luck with Domainz have been on the phone to them every day for last week or more to get things sorted. They just dont seem to know anything.... I will reg .com nameservers but would still like my own IP's for them to prevent problems. Regards, Mike |

<quote>If you lookup your IP do you get your domain back?........</quote>
if you are using dedicated ip, yes (these are limited in number by Matrix plan). <quote>I will reg .com nameservers but would still like my own IP's for them to prevent problems..........</quote> Don't think you can for nameservers at present. I'll email u my phone number in 10 minutes, my typing finger is worn out. cheers, murray. |
