Which is better cpanel plan or hsphere

Which would be better? I prefer something linux/unix based. Looking on the plan options. i noticed that the cpanel comes with a bunch of different stuff that a user can add on, but the hsphere comes with a bunch more options.. is there any advantages and disadvantages to each? Thank you , Daniel

If you just need unix/linux Cpanel all the way. Very stable and fast.. If you need billing, ticket system and all the other good things H-Sphere offers then go that way..

advantage H-Sphere
H-Sphere you get windows and all its little good things as well.

disadvantage H-Sphere
Can still be a little buggy from time to time. But we are getting them all worked out ASAP.

advantage CPanel
Super fast all FreeBSD or Redhat and very stable good working system. Not many bugs any more.

disadvantage
No billing system, no auto setups, no ticket system, no windows and a few other things.

More disadvantages for Cpanel: no automatic mass mailing of your customers, e-mail address not stored in control panel, you can only reset a customers password but not "see" it from your control panel.

I just compared the two this week and this is how I see it: If I am a webdesigner, only adding my own customers, I would go with Cpanel. I like the look better and it is easier to maintain.

If you try to run a hosting business as reseller, you probably want to go with HSphere.

Please correct me, anyone, if I'm wrong.

I agree with obj,

H-Sphere is better for someone who wants to start a hosting biz out of the box and get all the automated features.
Cpanel can be automated with Server acess keys etc. from WHM but its alot harder. but for a more stable and easier to use system Cpanel all the way.

Unix is my opinion, but that will of course start a flame war. W2k might have "more" but its also much more buggy.

Unix-" Anything you can do i can better"

Windows- "I can do anything better than you"

I'll take unix anyday.

Question

OK, I'm taking all this info in, but I have a few more questions.

I am a web designer hosting my clients only (not open to public). I have a cypher plan with about 7 accounts right now. I personally sign up all my clients. I don't use the billing and don't need a ticket system. I only setup unix plans and don't need windows. Hsphere is OK, but I like the look and simplicity of cpanel better. If I switched to cpanel, would I be losing any major feature that someone here thinks I would need? (I can't think of anything.)

admin...what are all the other good things

Also, I know cpanel is based on usage. What exactly does this mean? (sorry for asking such a newbie question)

I completely disagree with you
Resellers should use Cpanel, because they can use their own signup script, support and billing. Use applications that work. Cpanel is great for resellling, but it's up to you to have an up to date database with all the details of your customers.
Hsphere is not flexible enough, too buggy, does not work well for resellers, but it's a powerfull system for webdesigners. You don't need to give accounts to your customers, you just manage everything from yours.

sandgnat,

Everyone has valid arguments,, but it really does come down to personal preference as well. H-Sphere may be buggy but it all depends on what all your doing. I have sites on H-sphere and on Cpanel and i like them both.

You asked: "Also, I know cpanel is based on usage. What exactly does this mean? (sorry for asking such a newbie question)"

This means on CPanel you can make your plans as big as you want and oversell space to your cients if you desire. Your only billed on what you use and not on what you allocate as you are in H-Sphere.

We could have the same on Hsphere, how come you're not allowing us to do the same?

Its not just that simple, as it is not as stable yet and we don't want to make anymore problems in H-Sphere right now.

How difficult would it be to switch from a reseller plan in hsphere to cpanel?

If you have all your files you could just ftp them up and rebuild it.
although it would take a liitle tweaking as far as plans and such,
I know craig did one site in what seemed like an hour for everything, but he's been using cpanel for awhile. Me probably forever. :-?
