Yes, what powvex says is a good idea. And again: When exactly it'll be available?

Hi - Not sure if this is the thread to post or find all PSOFT-HSPHERE upgrade related issues... Please let me know if I should post elsewhere.

Here's my question: At what point will it make more sense to just ROLL-BACK the upgrade? I mean, there's a business imperative here, and it's been several days now with CRITICAL issues effecting not only my business, but my hosted clients' business as well. Payment processing, site outages, DB setup and other issues... These are all critical, and there should either be an ETA on repairs being completed -OR- we should chalk another one up to poor PSOFT pre-release testing of their updates, and roll-back ALL changes as soon as possible.

We can't continue with an indefinite, unspecified outage and inability to do business... Vortech servers don't just host personal hobby sites, but businesses and revenue-generating sites for which outages and escalation of the issues are absolutely critical.

No griping... Just stating a fact. My customers won't allow me to tell them "we'll fix it soon, but we just don't know when"... and PSOFT shouldn't be allowed to do this to Vortech. Vortech - throw your weight around, and tell PSOFT to fix this crap or you'll roll-back and avoid upgrading anymore unless they provide you an SLA and assume financial responsibility for their bad code.

That's my 2 cents.
TK

@tkrafty - This is not the place for this, you should submit a ticket if you have not already. Most of these issues have been resolved or are near resolution. FWIW it's near impossible to roll back the upgrade at this point.

@powvex - End of next week. We will probably not install 2.0 on any of the existing servers until we move to the Hsphere 3.0 branch.

Hi - I did submit a ticket for my clients who are effected, and that's why i didn't go into any those details in this forum... I'm simply talking about the time it takes to get any repairs from PSOFT, and THEIR crap-code. If it were me, I'd be very VERY hesitant and nervous about installing any of PSOFT's updates in the future, until and unless there was more testing, or seeing what issues other service-providers experience with their upgrades first (if that kind of spy-work is possible in this industry). And aside from that, my standard request has always been for more communication, ETA's where possible, etc. Anyone looking at this thread already knows the upgrade didn't go smoothly, so talking about it and providing more details isn't likely to shock anyone. That's all... I'm looking forward to being back to 100% here soon, whenever.

Chat transcript 3 march 2007

PeterD: Hi Abey

Abey: Hello,

Abey: Welcome To Live Chat support

Abey: How may i assist you?

PeterD: I have checked the forums. Seems like there's a lot of smoke but no .NET 2.0 firing up on any forum threads anywhere

Abey: Yes.

Abey: currently we do not have ETA For updating the .net2 servers

PeterD: That's ridiculous! Do you guys listen to your customers at all? People are SCREAMING for this. Is it technically too challenging for Vortech?

Abey: ok. Can you explore your issue/problem?

PeterD: great response. yes I can. The issue is that for several months I have been following and contributing to forum threads on the subject of .net2 and have on the basis of what has been said by Brad, been passing on to MY customers that .net2 would be rolled out after the big upgrade. And now I am getting the message that there's NO ETA. That's my issue.

Abey: Yes. You are right..

Abey: we will be rolling out 2.0 on all of the shared windows servers

Abey: It will be at least another week

Abey: currently we are hang up with the issue after upgrade....Thats why it is taking time..but ...we are giving our best to ....this ..

PeterD: The lack of a time line is pretty disappointing. A separate .net2 server was mooted by Brad. Is this idea
a dead duck?

Abey: yes...But our admins are working on it to get it asap..

PeterD: Sure they are. ASAP is just after the 12th of never, right?

Abey: Peter ! It is only the matter of commitment....Uptill we get it ...

PeterD: I'll pass on the "asap" message to my customers. You have a good day Abey.

Abey: Thanks.

Abey: You are welcome.

Peter, if you checked the forums you would have seen that Brad said he was away untill the 13th and nothing new will come untill after that. And .net20 will probably be installed on all server. Considering they have 51 nt servers, i don't see how they can rush things. I for one want v2.0 and have lost customers becuase of it, but i'll wait patiently, i know it's coming.

On a seconde note, I never look forward to Abeys email replies.

I think it is pretty clear from Vortech's response over the last year to Windows technology in general and .NET 2.0 specifically, that they are biased against the Windows platform.

Once Brad mentioned, in another post, that we wouldn't get ASP.NET 2 until after he got back on the 13th, I finally gave up and found another solution. Now that I have, I realize that it will probably be another year before Vortech supports MS AJAX technology, and that's a year AFTER they finally support .NET 2.0. Meanwhile, I have my .NET customers running on an hsphere 2.4 control panel that supports 1.1 OR 2.0 AND AJAX with a support staff that is MS Gold Certified. (Oh, and they also offer anonymous support! We'll see how well that works, but it is attractive.) What do you think the chances that a company like that will upgrade to the next Windows thing that comes out in a reasonable time frame.

IOW, I have my Windows customers with a company focused on Windows and I have my 'Nix customers with a company focused on 'Nix (That'd be Vortech).

Should have done this last year. When I finally got to the point when I realized the ETA for .NET 2.0 was really "never" I was too busy to make the move.

In the end, I'll have two hosting companies that each look like they are focused on a specific platform. This will be easier to SEO, be more attractive to my customers, and give each the best of what is available for the respective platforms.

What David was trying to say is that we won't be installing it on any of our existing servers, we will have it installed on our new servers, and if you want to be moved to those servers you will just have to let us know and we will move you.

unfortunately this is too late for upgrades after many customers left us, and all we get is delay for .net2.

meanwhile in other hsphere large clusters, they have moved over .net2 months ago.

We personally gave up .net2 here, and we are moving all existing customers to some other hsphere cluster. this is very painful to move more than 400 site, but should be done if we want to remain in business.
