can you get an ssl before domain name propogation?
i am in the process of moving a customer from one host (not so good) to my reseller account (hopefully better
)can i get his ssl set up without switching the dns yet, so everthing will transfer quite seamlessly??? is the certificate based on the ip? the domain or both??? of course i would be generating the ssl keys and stuff to purchase from hsphere... please let me know if any have had experience in this...

SSL requires a dedicated IP but it is not based on one IP. Most SSL providers require an email to be sent to an admin@domain.com or something along the lines of that. I would say wait until the domain is working... Also make sure to keep a copy of the keys Hsphere generates for you.

My understanding is the SSL (at least Verisign) is domain name specific... you must have the certificate installed by the hosting company BEFORE the transfer!!! Then set up your website and make the DNS switch.
That's the way it is supposed to work as I understand it.
