You wouldn't be able to use retrospect as an end user really, when it comes to clients I think the best thing to do is just say it's their problem, don't guarantee any backup, make them responsible for them.

Thanks Brad!! I have been a long time fan of Image based backups.... If the Symantec deal is done...Great! If not.... May I also suggest taking a look/test driving Acronis True Image 8.0 Enterprise Server.

I have over time replaced all my "Ghost" products with Acronis.

Thanks again for taking this step! I am sleeping better already!

Thumbs down More NT38 Downtime Today

Tell me about it, the situation with NT38 is ridiculous and I think has already cost me one of my clients who I believe is now looking elsewhere for their hosting. This has cost me a lot more than my $35 i got for all the downtime.

Despite the server being rebuilt it has gone down yet again. I asked why and only got the response of 'Your site is already back up.', maybe I am being stupid but I don't see how this explains WHY ! I also asked to have all of my sites moved off of NT38 to a more stable server, that was also ignored in my ticket.

Support may think that I keep getting irate about this but I feel I have good reason to be doing so.

CreativeNRG,
I feel for ya...however, you might want to look into some redundancy for your clients...if you have to have it. A VPS,DNS w/ another domain. Regular hosting in a shared environment, at these costs will not prevent downtime. Days of it is not excusable under any, but the most extreme natural disaster, but some is gonna happen. Also...this is biased, but I have always found unix to have better reliability for hosting... even here.

I am interested in hearing more about how to achieve this as hosting is not something I know an awful lot about, as long as it works I have little concern for the goings on in the background. I am a web developer and didn't want to get involved in commercial hosting for these very reasons that have been demonstrated over the past couple of weeks. It kind of just happened that I ended up hosting some of the work that I have done for clients and I now wish i hadn't as I am being held accountable for the vortech downtime etc.

Unix is not an option for most of the work I do unfortunatly as a lot of my work is ASP.NET & SQL Server.

Any further information and advice you could spare would be very much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Simon

Well we got a part in today we were waiting on from sun. We will be replacing NT38 tomorrow or wed. to take it off the hardware it's on now. The system did not have issues before it's fall out so we are not 100% sure what it's issue is.

We are just going to fully replace the system with a new one. We will post when we are ready to do this, this should total fix the issue.
