I tend to go more bang for the buck, and to me that's going with a new cypher plan, but there are likely some resellers that will disuade you from that because managing 2 cp's also means 2 service domains, along with some other headaches I'm sure.

It could go ether way really, on one hand you can save a few bucks and go with the cypher plan, but then you have to manage to account. That kind of sucks.

On the other hand you could upgrade keep everything in one CP and makes life a lot easier.

Its a hard one there.. LoL

enter-sys, you might also want to look at our VPS option when it comes out as well if you do more unix hosting then windows. We will be talking about being able to add VPS with in our cluster in our next meeting on 8/11/04 so we might be able to do something to help even more then.

Windows VPS is also in the works so thats also another option.

VPS is Virtual Private Server .. its where a single server is partitioned off into multiple "virtual" servers.

I could be wrong here but I think the diff is less accounts per machine, so more resources. Probably heftier amount of space too I imagine. I'm sure there are other diff's, but I think it varies per ISP. I'm curious to see what will be offered as well, on the Windows side

$ reseller = sharing with hundreds of domains, no guarantee of server resources - no root access

$$ VPS = if there are 10 virtual's per machine, you get 10% guaranteed resources (CPU, Memory, Disk) - root access

$$$ Dedicated = you get the whole box, all resources are your's - root access

Of course, as you can see, you pay for what you get

jmbeach - yes, correct. but we are re-sellers of matrix. our resoucres get spreaded on servers on matirx culuster.

now when we have VPS - does that means mail, sql, php and all that will be on that server or what?

sure, as resellers we get the benefit of all the added resources like mail, sql, @mail and urchin, but we're sharing the web server (the most important link really) with countless domains, each fighting for resources. The nice thing about VPS is that you're guaranteed a percentage of resources on the web server. I'm guessing that their setup will still have VPS users sharing the outside resources, but frankly I could do with mail being slow or down periodically. It's my site that I need to have up as much as possible, and VPS better allows that.

As far as scripting you'll be able to do with a VPS machine. I believe they'll have *nix VPS first, so probably PHP mostly. We'll have to wait and see if they bring on Windows VPS later. I'm guessing the success of the *nix VPS will determine that.

does that means, all our web sites + my customers web sites will be on one VPS server and the rest of the resouces such as DB, webmail from the rest of the matrix cluster?

If Vortech don't use HSphere VPS then no I don't think you'll have access to the HSphere shared resources, you'd have to install mySQL, sendmail etc under your VPS.
