01/14/2004: Maintanence for webmail.hsphere.cc

Got the email on this yesterday but haven't seen anything in News/Announcements about it.

Any estimate on length of downtime?

Depends on the database parts the most. @mail has 2 setting normal and large. When @mail setup our system there stupid tech set it up as normal. So we have to switch that over to Large and do some other database stuff. Then we upgrade the system to the latest version and fix any issues or layout issues with in that..

I would say 2 hours max of 4 hours in the worst case. Its just something that will take a little time to get done..

Here's what will be involved in the upgrade:

- Upgrading @mail to latest version

- Converting database to "Large" structure. This is expected to take the longest as the database is approximately 20GB.

- Upgrading to MySQL 4. This should improve the performance of the system as
well. We will be using the threaded setup that exists on the other FreeBSD servers that also seems to allow MySQL to perform better by utilizing all available CPU power.

We will do what we can to perform this maintainence in the shortest time possible.

Any updates on when mySQL will be getting updated? All my views show I am using 3.23.58 and I know that at least 4.0.17 is available.
