We have been made aware of an issue with domains on almost all of the Unix servers. Due to an issue with how this version of h-sphere writes the vhost config when changing web options, you may cause your site to show this page:
http://unix4.hsphere.cc/ instead of your actual page. This is being worked on now, we will let you know when this is resolved. If you do not change your web options, your site should be fine. |

Hate to Flame... But...
OK - So I know Vortech is doing this big upgrade and we're all supposed to be patient. I read the forums and try to stay up on the activity. But when I didn't see my issue being addressed and the server status report says that up server is:
NT10 - Up and running, no issues And I am having issues, I thought I should open a ticket. My issue is this: I have a website on NT10 that has a protected directory (asks for a username & password for access). WHen you enter the username & password (that has been working for 2 years), it just asks again. After 3 tries, it locks you out saying that the page cannot be accessed. I have tried the following: 1) Resetting the password 2) Changing the password 3) Deleting the .htaccess file 4) Deleting the .users_ok file 5) Deleting BOTH the .users_ok & .htaccess files If I delete the files, I can access the directory, but then it is unprotected which is unacceptable. So... I put all of this in a ticket, and I am told to refer to the forums. I assume they mean THIS particular post which again, shows the server in question to be running with no issues. So I respond to the ticket saying - "but wait - the forum says there's no issues, but clearly I have an issue, so what do I do?" And wouldn't you know it... My reponse says "Kindly refer forum for update". Now I appreciate the polite tone of the response, but DAMN! I am incensed! Why do I have to stay on top of this issue for hours on end with no appropriate reply for my cry for help? Is anyone else having issues with security as I have described above? Is there a work-around? And how much babysitting do I have to do with my hosting provider before I call it quits and move-on to the next provider? The is my 2nd provider in 5 years. Each time, it's the same story... Out of the gate the provider is strong - up to date systems - crack support team - great service... Then, as time goes forward, they lose their strong support people, the system don't get updated I am start to get treated as an imbecile when reporting problems. It's just so very frustrating. I want to flame directly to Brad because he really seems to care - I just don't think he can do anything at this point. He's 1 guy trying to run a business - but then again... So am I... |

We have server wide problems we are working on, we have to prioritize. I know I personally have not looked at a single ticket in 2 days, I rely on other to let me know what needs to be fixed and half of what they give me I have to put off due to other problems. This is a MAJOR upgrade that significantly changed the way the entire cluster functions, there are bound to be lots of problems that have to be ironed out but we cannot fix them all at once. Please be patient and your problem will be addressed in due time.

I'm not having your exact issue, but starting to get complaints in from Unix customers now on servers that are also listed as "ok" but they're now getting 403 errors on their sites.
Presumably it's related to either the new vhosts issue, or the earlier reported apache & permissions issue so for now i'll just plan to sit it out and let people get on with fixing it. |

David,
Thank you for the reply. That is much more helpful. At least I know that you guys are aware of multiple problems. Again - being told to "refer to the forums for updates" where I go and see that my problem server is "up and running, no issues" is: 1) Not helpful 2) Irritating So I know now that you are not simply in "upgrade" mode, but actually in "fire-drill" mode. The problem that I now have is: how long do I wait until I know whether or not you are actually aware of my problem and going to fix it? You stated that you haven't looked at a trouble ticket in 2 days. The problem that I have is that people ARE looking at my trouble ticket and CLOSING the ticket with ABSOLUTELY NO RESOLUTION. Yet the forums don't mention my problem at all. So while I can appreciate VORTECH's issues with this MAJOR upgrade. I don't think VORTECH is appreciating MY PORSITION that I have a problem that needs to be addressed at some point in time and by closing my ticket and telling me to refer to the forums that do NOT show my problem does not give me the least amount of confidence that my issue will be addressed at some point. So I have to tell my client to be patient and pick some arbitrary amount of time before I "hit" Vortech with my problem again. What if I don't nag? With my ticket closed will you ever know I have a problem? I could not bother Vortech for days and get a worse and worse reputation with my client, and potentially lose the client when, in fact, Vortech "thought" they had all the problems resolved. So again - I understand that you want me to be patient, but how an I to be assured that my problem is "in the list" of things to be fixed and, more importantly, how will I know when it IS fixed so that I can tell my client that their site is working again. Sorry to slam again David, but I just want to be counted and assured that Vortech cares about ME and MY PROBLEM as well as your MAJOR upgrade. I wil cut you guys some slack when I feel there is a real concern for MY business as well as yours. |

It looks like we should have that straightened out soon. A lot of home directories' permissions were messed up from the upgrade. We'll let everyone know when this is resolved. |

Most of mine are looking much better now anyway thanks Jef.
As for the support, I can't personally find fault with the way this is being dealt with, I have a vague ballpark idea of the number of resellers Vortech has and I can totally believe the barrage of ticket's you must be getting if even just a small percentage are raising a ticket for these problems as they happen. Dealing with each ticket in detail right now is probably just not a practical thing to be doing as it's time that could be better spent working on the issue, or reporting to everyone via the forum (even if the updates are an hour or two behind whats really happening it's still better than someone furiously trying to answer all tickets in precise detail). Just my $0.02 |

Is anyone having any SSL issues on any of their UNIX accounts? If so, PM me a couple of them if you can.

Risedev; we have more than 600 sites here and for sure we have problems with them too. but this is not vortech fault as this upgrade should be done, even sooner than this. so there is nothing that can be done to prevent such things by vortech.
the only thing that could be done is waiting and being patient at this time, and let techs do their job. |
