Speaking of upgrades, I see that MySQL is discontinuing support for our beloved MySQL 4.0.26 on Sept 30 2006. Is there any hope PSoft will include support for a newer version? like 4.1, 5.0 or 5.1. Is MySQL support dependent on the version of HSphere?

Even if they do upgrade to the like of 5+ do you think we'll get access to create SP's? I've gotten so use to writing them now it really puts me off developing site for mysql <5

What happened to this?

I was curious as to how the upgrades to Windows 2003 were going. I am on NT7 and checked my server but it still shows as being Win2k IIS5. |

I feel like I've breeched the subject of the dirty uncle that no one wants to talk about.
Dean had this whole Windows 2003 upgrade path all outlined back in August with the list of servers that were destined for upgrades and information, discussion, and updates regarding it vanished like a fart in the wind. What I'm trying to do is prevent the loss of a customer. You see, his sole business is based upon the development of .NET apps. He asked about .NET 2.0 many times now which I am sure many of your customers have as well which I understand is awaiting on HSphere 2.5.1. Not much VT can do about that, but, he also inquired about Win 2003 and essentially summarized that we are way behind the curve when it comes to these two advancements and that other hosts can do it etc. I truly cannot disagree with him. In an effort to answer his questions I researched the forums here to find some answers only to find that it has been swept under the rug or so to speak. I couldn't really sit on his email waiting to hear back from no one so I had to tell him something. I tried posting here; silence. I tried calling; no answer. I tried submitting a support ticket; put on hold 24+ hours now. It would really be great to hear from VT regarding Windows 2003 updates so I can at least give my customer a positive sign, light at the end of the tunnel or at the very least... a reason to stay? ![]() |

Sometimes ya gotta talk about Uncle Ralphie before he hurts the kiddies.
Clients aren't buying the reasons I pass along from Vortech for not having .Net 2.0 because so many other hosts offer it. They've been hearing it too long. As I passed along the schedule for upgrades to W2K3 as "the plan", my credibility is shot anyway. I think VT needs to come up with a way to be more current with development technologies. .NET 3.0 will be along soon and Ruby on Rails is even taking off in the corporate market. Maybe we need to be able to offer more than just Windows or Unix hosting. Perhaps the servers need to be split up to offer a couple of types of windows hosting and a couple of types of unix hosting instead of one size fits some.

I am pleased to report that I did NOT pass along the upgrade schedule for Windows 2003 to my customers. I was planning on passing it along back in August because it looked sincere. However, the little voice in my head said "Don't do it!".
I am so glad I listened to the little voice or my credibility would be shot as well. I feel for ya! I really appreciate my customers and I don't like to feed them a line of BS. I feel compromised/dirty at the very thought ya know? So I guess we are both waiting to hear what happened to uncle Ralphie! ![]() |

I have to agree with dpyers, we need more services. I really want streaming servers, exchange and if possible java but also boxes with special components like Ruby or what ever the latest trend is...

Wow, still no response from the VT camp. It really feels like somebody dropped the ball here on these specified upgrades and no one will take point, come out and make a statement.
In fact, the support ticket I put in regarding this question on the 25th (DYG-366030) so that I could give an answer to a customer is still on "HOLD". If I actually waited to give my customer an answer this long... Someone really needs to take responsibility here and provide us with some information. Otherwise it is starting to appear as if there is a problem and VT can't, won't or doesn't know how to succesfully upgrade to Win2k3 and no one wants to be the one to say it. Regardless, a statement needs to be made. C'mon guys, you're starting to look suspect! While I may only be a reseller, one of my founding principles and creed which is posted on my website is as follows: "We would never ignore, brush off or treat unfairly a client. We will always give you an answer even if it is not to your liking." |

I'd put in an update to the ticket. Might bump it up in the queue again.
