WAP skin again....
I hate to bring this up again, but..... :angel:
Is there any reason we can't have the vb wap skin here? Kinda sucks to be stuck w/ this cumbersome skin. Fine on broadband, but limits the forum usage (imo). I know I cannot be the only one who would like WAP access here.

Although I seldom access the forums via Wap, if I ever needed to it would be nice to have a simpler skin available. Though since I have Opera on my cell-phone, and Opera makes a pretty good job of adapting the forums to the limited screen size, I actually manage to work with the current skin pretty well...

That is amazing. Memory and bandwidth would make it take forever. I don't see how you do it. There is a simple wap skin for vb on their forum. Several people..some from here are using it w/ no problem...so it is a simple thing to take care of.
Just tried it. Def loads faster on wap than it did, but it is a formatting nightmare. I guess some graphics were altered from the original. Mine is an openwave 6 something version. Last edited by mresell : 10-03-2005 at 12:14 AM. Reason: update

"Opera Mini" (a 56kb JM2E app) actually does a fairly good job at adapting ordinary web-pages to the smaller screens of normal WAP phones. Furthermore; All files that make up a web page is resized and compressed at "proxy level" before being transfered to the cell, so download sizes (and expenses) are very much reduced as well. Works very well! I only know of a single drawback with Mini; it's only available through 3rd party content providers...
Opera Mobil simply is the king of the mobile web. If you're serious about mobile web usage you should take a look at Opera's mobile products, with any luck you'll find your cell on that page. IIRC Opera offers trial version of their mobile browser as well... Regardless; A special purpose, specially designed site/skin would be the best solution...

I use 'Mobile Alabama' as a skin on one of my forums... think I got it off vBulletin.org (but I have a copy if anyone needs it and can't find it).
I installed it as I use a SPV M2000 and needed to check things whilst on the move ... it's a great skin and fast... Installation of a WAP skin gets my thumbs up
