Vortech Network Connectivity
This area has mystified me for long time. From OPManager (very good stuff) I have deduced the following oputgoing links from one core router 216.157.144.129
-To Barney -Epik Uplink -NOTA link -InterNap Link -Loopback0 -Cogent Uplink 1) Does this mean, there are five major outgoing/incoming internet links ( I am discounting the loopback node)? 2) What is each links capacity/rating etc? 3) Is everyone of these redundant ~ if one fails, another serves any request regardless of where one is situated? I ask Q3 because I notice from trace that mine always routes through COGENT. I get statistics like : note.... EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE now it is through EPIK IS it possible for Vortech to imporve these figures or are they within acceptable limits? I suppose it really enters Vortech control/domain once it is in EPIK?

Next in line are the switches?
I notice a gazaleon number of switches which take time to load and am going to assume each switch hooks to the router mentioned earlier. I counted like 11 swithes.
I am trying to make sense of how the network is wired and have only my small home router/adsl setup to imagine things. The router connects out to sitches (optionally) or directly to my pc's. SO I assume this works the same manner and fashion nothwithstanding more complicated configurations, IP setup etc?

The desktops are usually just computers they are monitoring as part of the local network.
I am scared to ask what testosterone.vortechhosting.com is? With a cluster and network this large I am sure there are quite a number of switches. |

Here is how the network is layed out.
Gige Epik, Gige Cogent, T3 Internap, T3 Peering in NAP, 100 epik. That all comes in to our cisco 7606 router, from there it goes down to our Extrem Networks 6808 switch from there it goes out to cisco 2950 switchs ( most of them are gige to rack switchs. ) from there each server gets a 10/100 link back to the cisco switch. All switchs are vlaned off from each other so we don't have lot's of arp going around. As ping time, that was one of our reasons for going to south FL to get peering from providers that go right to other countries to make it faster, but this is coming along a little slow, as a lot of the providers are not getting back to us.

I forgot this, if cogent was to go down we have another gige line with epik, also you would never know if one does go down. We had epik go down the other night and no one even noticed.
Bandwidth is fully redundant with our BGP setup.
