Just an idea... with all these mail servers, is it worth us developers building in a distribution across all servers when sending bulk emails?
For example, if sending 8000 emails to site members, maybe we can do a "round robin" of SMTP servers, so each one gets 1000 instead of one getting the entire load? Is that worth doing or will it not really help much?

Mailing lists are restricted to the server they are on, If you are sending from a script on one of the web servers you should not be using one of the mail servers to send. We have a dedicated server for this.

No worries, just throwing in the idea to see if it was useful.
![]() Currently if I send an email from a script, I use the web server the script is running on for SMTP - after reading various previous posts, I assumed that was the latest best practice. Is that right, or are you saying scripts should use the "dedicated server" mentioned? Haven't read anything about that one.... can you clarify? Cheers

Using localhost is our preferance. Some scripts require an smtp server though. There scripts can send through "forward.hsphere.cc".
