Okay, this brings up an interesting solution, Does anyone know of a way to move clients off of mail 7 and 8? I looked and although I can delete the DNS server aliases, there does not seem to be anyway to delete or update the actual DNS records for reseller`s server aliases.

It would seem that I have to do this, but maybe there is an easier way?

to change your email server (ie. create a backup or change the primary server), you need to change the mx record(s) for the domain. this is how I did it: setup accounts on new server, added new email server as higher priority mx record, deleted exisiting cname, created cnames for new email servers (pop, smtp, webmail), make sure it's working, then delete the old mx record.

that's what I thought, So how long did it take for it to come to life with the new DNS records 1 or 2 days? Just wondering how long to wait to make sure it is working.

Also, under this method, the end users did not have to change anything, right?
Their accounts were not deleted?

The reason I am asking is that Vortech says that I need to delete the mail server altogether and then recreate ALL account and that they will loose ALL their mail. Just did not sound right to me.

I am also experiencing no mail being delivered from outside into Mail7. You guys are killing us here.

Is there no way to close these to servers down and move everyone over to new ones?

I cannot fathom why Vortech is not putting this information out to the masses until they fix this.

Is this incomming mail problem internal to Vortech? It seams like I get some mail in, but nothing that is sent via another mail account that is on a Vortech server... no matter what server it is being sent from.

I tried to send myself an email from a Yahoo account - nothing. I also know a support ticket I sent earlier was replied to but that reply never got to my inbox. I did get a few emails earlier this morning but nothing for many hours since. I think unix19 was down for a while. unix21 has been down all morning (at least it is on my end).

** Just tested again - got a couple emails. Maybe it's working now?

MAIL PROBLEMS - On Going - Will it end??

Not sure what is going!! I already lost 2 customers and another one is really mad at this point. I wish they would just move everyone off that mail server to another one. Then worry about fixing that problem later.

Could someone please give us a step by step list of what to do to move our accounts from mail7 & mail8 to another server? Or at least point all the mail from one of those accounts to another server temporarily?

Well, I can't speak for inside Vortech, but I have been moving my clients off of Vortech mail servers altogether. It's expensive, but its something I can do fast enough to keep my clients happy.

Of course I'm lucky enough to have recently set up a new dedicated server that can handle the influx, now I just have to figure out what to do about the fun stuff that server was supposed to get filled with.

I agree with tcat98, our customer has decided to leave us and find another hosting compnay. I think Vortech should move all the mail7 users to another mail server and then fix the existing problem with mail7.

Support, if you are reading this message, please pass it on to management of Vortech to make a quick descion on this issue. This problem has been going on for 5 days and this in no way to keep customers happy.

To change to another email server, Josh in support told me (replied to my TT) that the best solution is to turn off the mail service in the control panel, turn it back on and the mail service would be moved to (hopefully) another server... although it would take 24 hours to propogate!

Does this sound like the best option, or is there another way that I can repoint and have it somewhere quicker?

Even if we were to migrate everyone to a different server, all they have to do is change one number and they are targeting the new server. They are doing this to either damage us and our credibility or a speciific user on the mailserver. for those that have not read the entire thread - This is not a 'problematic mailserver' or 'misconfiguration' of the mailserver. It is an active attack against it. We are doing everything we can to minimize the impact. As of right now there are no updates on the situation.
