mail8.hsphere.cc
We are scheduling a short downtime for server mail8.hsphere.cc on Thursday, July 21st at 11:00 P.M. Eastern Time. We will be moving the server from one cabinet to another. We do not anticipate this downtime to exceed 15 minutes.

I'm in the UK, it's 10.35pm ... my mail has not worked since before 8pm today... is something wrong?

No nothing here, might want to open a ticket at vortechsupport.com since this since we have not done this work yet. I don't think it has anything to do with your issue.
