Yikes!

I have a client who just informed me that they may be on Coast2Coast AM with George Noory in the near future. For those who don't know, its a late night radio show.

We're concerned about her site getting swamped during and after the show, is there any way to prevent this or meter the incoming traffic so it doesn't adversely affect the server?

It should not affect the server it would a lot more than an AM show to take it down.

Great, I'll just save your reply to remind you when it happens.

This particular show has quite a following around the world, usually when a show is on they post their guests URLS on their own site and often times the site is overloaded and starts refusing entry. Kinda like a DOS.

Talking more with my client, they aren't even sure yet if they'll be on the show, and more than likely won't be of such significant interest like they could be if they were talking about government conspiracy or aliens returning Elvis. We're merely looking ahead at possibilities.

We wouldn't be concerned if her sites were all that would be affected and not the entire server, but if you say it's ok, then we'll go with that.

Thanks Brad!

That wouldn't happen to be the same show that used to feature Art Bell would it? I used to drive a late night route and listen to him all the time.

The very same... I think Art does a weekend show still... I tune in every time I'm out after midnight, otherwise can't seem to tune in.

As you know, the show is nationally syndicated, I can usually pull it in on half a dozen AM stations around the country at any given location... then they also stream and archive shows online which is where they get their international following. An audience like that is nothing to scoff at as "some AM show".

As I said later though we don't know if she'll get on the show or not yet, or how interesting she'll be to get the kind of traffic that could pose a problem. It will be fun to see. At the very least she and I will get more exposure...

I suppose if it does start causing a problem we can temporarily suspend her account... Her sites aren't too intensive themselves so that's a good thing.

LightSpeed, yeah I was bummed when they started charging for the online streams too, but I used it so seldom it didn't make sense to subscribe. It's hard to take 4 hours or so a day to sit and listen to anything, unless I'm out driving around at night.

Lots of interesting topics, and a few nutcases call in from time to time which makes it interesting.
