BTW it's the neo-quary.xml that is having an issue. I think I spelled it wrong a few times in here someone pointed out to me.
I should be able to give an update here in the next 30 min or so on whats going on and what we need to do to fix it for good, I hope this time.

I am waiting on a tech from Macromedia to call back now. They are saying they must call me back with in 4 hours. I took there paid option this time $500 to make sure we ether get it fixed or macromedia address's the issue in some way.

You would think that Macabremedia would care more about their customers perceptions for obvious short-comings in their application.
I think it's preposterous that you would have to pay a dime for a KNOWN issue that the only advice they have officially given is in the form of restore a backup (which, from my own research, is typically corrupt as well more often than not) or re-install and recreate the file from scratch. Rediculous! |

You are 100% right, it can happen to any install and its nothing, the customers or psoft is doing wrong. Alos the files LOOKS 100% right. Here is the really odd thing. The other night I took a default install of CF's neo-quary.xml and put everyones DSN's in there one at time, there was one that would not work the other night. But then I added it back and from with in H-Sphere and did a diff on the old and the one H-Sphere but back in there. Guess what they were 100% the same. Nothing was different then the spot it was in the file.
I hope they have a better answer this time since I getting a tech higher up in the food chain I guess since I paying for there support for there own issues.

Brad, I appreciate your frustration, but going back to CF5 will be an expensive proposition for some of us, i.e., those of us who embraced the MX features and have Websites built around that. In our particular case CFChart, and a few other misc features are key to our service. None of us like to shell out those $500 fees to Macromedia, but in aggregate some of us stand to loose much more than that. Some may already have lost that much or more, in customer goodwill and reputation. What happened is bad and you folks have done the best you can under the circumstances. Even more impressive to me is how courteous all of the support people have been throughout this while I am sure they are under a lot of stress. Having said all of that I would urge you not to exacerbate our problems and throw the baby out with the bath water. This would not be fair to those who are not taking a significant loss on this, but I would be willing to pay my share of the cost to get Macromedia in to fix the problem. It has to be less expensive for me. Thanks, Nick |

My one and only CF client's site was built in CF-4.5, with a few minor modifications needed to suit the new environment and MX cases. He could probably downgrade with minimal impact if absolutely necessary, but in the end, hosts that support ColdFusion are expected to provide the latest MX. If we can't support that, then I'm basically left with giving my client a link to sign-up with someone else... ack!
Good luck with Macromedia... They don't seem to really care about the internet product sector as much as their salespeople do, in spite of all the money they've put into buying companies and related products. Different topic, my favorite text editor, Homesite, was bought by them almost three years ago, and not a single update/upgrade has come along since... It's like they want it to die... those bastards ![]() |

You're right, you would lose a lot of functionality going back to CF5 especially if you've build solutions around the CFChart tag. I don't think anybody at this point WANTS to go back to CF5, but everything being down going on 3 days is pretty bad. The long and short of it is that Macabremedia either needs to fix this problem allowing us to skate through until Blackstone is released, or GIVE us (meaning Vortech) a relatively stable version of Blackstone now, if that's even feasible. |

Same with my favorite editor, Cold Fusion Studio. I think you hit the nail on the head. They DO want it to die. They want to rape you for that bloated 300 pound gorilla in a tu tu called Dreamweaver. I would use notepad again before I even touched that piece of cr*p. |

We will not be going back to CF 5. I really want MX to work and be stable as much as you guys do trust me.

We maintain all of our "lead loss" websites with Vortech.
Our primary websites (ie: bread & butter) are on dedicated servers with another host. We transitioned directly from CF 4.5 to CF 6.1 with very few issues... and none have cropped up since the moved. ~6 months and counting. <notice the crossed fingers behind my back>. We cannot afford to have our primary websites down even for a couple hours. Each site (of which there are 15) receive 35k+ unique logins per month supporting a membership base of almost .25m members. In my opinion... it would be benefitial for Vortech to maintain and correct the issues they are encountering with CFMX - and not to downgrade to CF 5.0. Several of their competitors are already offering similar services (including CF) for a similar price. In order to compete - I think Vortech "must" offer this service. I would recommend though... the number of boxes to be increased several fold. I understand the cost impact... but the benefits (imo) outweigh the cost - especially when it comes to customer appreciation / recommendation of services. Once CFMX stabilzes... it's actually a nice product. Very fast, and very clean operationally. We do have multiple dedicated servers though... 2 for CFMX, 1 for Mail, 1 for MS Sql Server (clustered). I am a Microsoft Certified Solution Developer... but I cannot attest to the strength or weaknesses of .NET. I more or less left the MS development world when I started this company 4 years ago. Now - I am the President, Programmer, and Chief Dish Washer. PHP looks confusing... though I do like the implementation of OO... something I terribly miss - from java, C++, C#, VB, and VFP. For myself - "free" is rarely a reason to use a product. I look more for quality and realibility... and yes - many of my friends say PHP is stable. My biggest beef with both MS and Macromedia are the costs of upgrades. Yearly - we have budget a substantial amount of $$$ just to provide internal upgrades. Also - I really hate getting calls from my customers telling me the site down... but I do understand the complexities of running such an operation as Vortech maintains. It's not an easy job... and I am not envious. Our primary websites have had zero (0 - literally 100% uptime) - downtime in the past year. Not bad for a boxes running Windows Advanced Server. A couple people we know who also operate businesses using Apache are in disbelief that a Windows box can go that far without at least reboot. Much of though - I believe - has to do with the quality of the source code. |

UPDATE FROM MACROMEDIA
We just received some support from Macromedia. They are currently going over the neo-query.xml file and looking for errors. Evidently it could be as simple as a space in the DSN entry. They will get to back to us shortly, and we will update this thread shortly. Thanks for your patience |

Not that I know how this stuff works, but just a thought --
Is there some interaction between this "new" 'CFDSN' option in the control panel and the 'neo-query' file ?? Like does something in p-soft modify ( & corrupt) the xml file ? Is there a need for file locking ?? Inter-vendor side effects are ALWAYS 'discovered' by the client, and never early. Like I said, this may be all wet, and of base but who knows |
