I have informed Brad. The reboot did occur at 9:30pm as scheduled and he is going to look into it.

Thanks Vixen. Looks like CF is still down.
Client with site on that box has an interview with CBS in the morning - about the site... ...go figure. ![]() TK |

CF is being a bitch today. Go figure. Brad and the techs have been working on this most of day <sigh> so hopefully CF will decide to play nice soon.

Well the server seems to be spotty at best. I'm trying the suggestions of setting up the ODBC dsns, and I actually got a few CFM pages to load. However, while the .htm pages load without a problem the CFM pages will not execute now.

EDITED: 11:09 ET: Now can see all services, but the client's homepage is only showing garbage (a bunch of Bold and Paragraph HTML tags, with one of them unclosed...) Homepage looks like "<." and that's it...
EDITED: 11:14 ET: Now their CF homepage is showing the datasource error... Error Executing Database Query. Data source not found... TK Last edited by tkraffty : 01-10-2005 at 11:13 PM. |

DNS creation
Well since you built all of our DNS's prior to this...please give a detailed example of how to do it so I dont screw things up anymore.

OK - looks like CF is up (???), but it turns out my client's other problem is he had four mySQL data-sources added MANUALLY some months ago which I forgot about...
Took me a while to figure out that we needed to replace those with new ones, find all the old info for him, and also got some errors fromt he control panel when trying to add them an hour ago. Just returned to try again, and was able to add the replacement datasources without any error (yay!), but am now waiting for the next reboot, hoping these and the updated Application.cfm variables will take effect... Any ETA on the next reboot? It's 9:55pm Pacific (12:55am ET) for me right now... TK Last edited by tkraffty : 01-11-2005 at 01:20 AM. |

(1.) If you're a reseller, update your ColdFusion plans to include the option for "CF DNS Record" and inable for the plan (2.) Login to the user's Control Panel for whatever account is having a connection problem, and click the ODBC button you'll see down under the "Databases" section... (3.) Click to add whatever types of data-source you need and enter the information required... eg, DSN: username_content Server: mysql2.idowebhosting.net Database: the_content_table_in_some_db Description: whatever goes here UID: username_db_username PWD: db_password Port: 3306 Option: 16 (4.) Update whatever code references you have to any old datasource names (my client USED to have "username-dsns" (dash), but the CP will only let you create "username_dsns" (underscore), so we had to update his Application.cfm settings...) (5.) Wait for the next reboot... |

I have made all the changes listed and still just get funny characters on all of my pages, I think there is still a server issue.

Yup, service is still hit and miss. Would be nice to get an update but I'm sure the techs are working on it and posting to this forum takes away from that... and I'd rather see CF stable than know when it might be stable. |

Speaking as one of the customers who does 80 percent of our work in Cold Fusion, I can tell you this has been an absolute nightmare for us. It is bad enough that it has been down - and these are all clients who we design/develop for, not just people we host, so the contracts with them are SIGNIFICANT - but that WE had to go through and re-create all of the datasources.
Our clients alone represent more than 30 datasources, which is bad enough, but because the naming conventions on them are NOW set by the control panel (i.e. username_dbname) - something we cannot control - many of our sites had significantly broken code due to the changed datasources. It took us literally 3 hours to create new datasources and to fix broken code as a result of the problems and the sites are STILL not working properly. While I completely understand corruption issues - it happens - and I also understand that you guys are working extremely hard to get it fixed, what is frustrating to us is the fact that we essentially have to fix the problems and do the work for an error not caused by us. It is one thing to re-create a few datasources, but more than 30, many of which as a result of the control panel naming conventions had to have MAJOR adjustments to code, seems unreasonable given that this had nothing to do with us in the first place. You guys have been and continue to be a great hosting company. We have very few overall problems. But, this has been a REALLY frustrating day. I know you guys don't have a ton of CF users, but we use it A LOT and this has the potential to lose us a LOT of money to clients who pay us to ensure that their sites are running properly and up quickly if they do go down. |

Are you sure this is accurate, when I tried to add a DNS record it would only allow the - dash not the _underscore. Plus when I click on the sites that are having problems, and click the ODBC button there is no option to add a DNS...merely a button to turn on the ODBC The one site that would let me update or turn on the DNS has an _underscore but all I get from the site is a <- when I load the page, which is better than the error, but still not what I need. I checked the reseller plan and all is checked appropriately to include the dns record. |

The username_ bit is prepended by the control panel though isn't it ? so what your entering into the screen is the bit that will follow that in the final DSN name, quite likely why it won't allow an underscore in it.
