any idea why some winxp pro shut down dialogs have a drop down for options and some have icons...or how to change one to the other? |

It may be that the one with the box icons is a member of a Workgroup, and the droplist one is a member of a domain (computer account that is). These two modes use different gina.dll files (which is the main dll for the login/logout dialogs).
I know that once you are a member of a domain, the option to switch users on the fly disappears, so perhaps the login/logout dialogs are also adjusted. |

I believe it has to do with the Explorer interface settings.... "Classic" (NT-style) vs. the new XP look-n-feel.
Look for "Display" | "Appearance" | "Windows and Buttons" in Control Panel. Last edited by sheptech : 06-22-2004 at 05:09 AM. |

You guys got windows to run long enough to see icons?
Brian's right, join a domain and the drop down list appears. |
