I don't know about the rest of you, but I think there was a total outtage for about 20 minutes or so.

The network upgrade has already been announced for tonight (last week), so expect some downtime. They were switching everything over to the Juniper so the entire network would not be down for an hour or more while Barney is installed.

I understand that but the 5th starts in 20 minutes. The move to the Juniper was done to benefit you guys instead of causing you to be down for at least an hour or more.

only reason I said anything was because I had a customer here and we were trying to get a some things finished before the deadline.

I know the time difference is minimal, but it did matter to us.

Good luck on the changes, I hope everything goes smoothly.

It matters to us also but we were actually trying to cause you LESS downtime.

so does that mean the switch is done? Or should we expect more downtime?

No, the switch is not done. They switched everything over to the Juniper while they pull the Ciscos and PIX out and install Barney. Being as Barney is rather heavy I am not sure exactly how long it is going to take to get it mounted in the rack. Once it is mounted and ready there will be some downtime while everything is switched from the Juniper to Barney.

And I just realized I am referring to the thing as if it is alive. LoL

Down time is one thing. But it hurts when it starts before a time we are prepared for. In my humble Caribbean isle, people aren't very reasonable, especially when dealing with a businessman as young as I am.

Anyway, good luck. I know your work will benefit me too, anywyay!

Sorry but I've got to rant a little on this

I'd rather be down for the expected 60 minutes than have an unexpected outage of 20 minutes that we were not advised of.

This is basic stuff guys, if you say your going to do something at 00:15am on the 5th, you don't change your mind on the 4th and do something different, otherwise why go to the bother of scheduling it in the first place, this isn't the first time a scheduled change has been changed or started early.

When you do this without advising us first and we can't contact any vortech site (including the forum, the status monitor etc) we have to react and advise our customers theres an unplanned outage. Doing this and finding out half an hour later it was "planned" just puts egg on our faces and yours.

Already today we've had brief outages on NT3 which has paniced a couple of my customers, this just added further confusion for them when I was unable to provide any specific reasons for this second outage to their sites in less than 2 hours.

I can't speak on any outages regarding NT3 as I know nothing about it. I was simply explaining why everything was down for the brief amount of time earlier. This was done to benefit you guys so you would not have to be down for an hour or more. Personally, I prefer 20 minutes to an hour, any day.

I will be making no further posts regarding this due to the fact that whenever an explanation is given, I am berated. I am not sure when any techs will be available to make posts either as they are working at the data center. I hope your downtime is minimal.

Nothing was personally directed at you Vixen.

The issue is, whilst you most definitely had our interests at heart, the fact is we weren't advised of a change in the "game-plan" .. because of that we now look like complete idiots to our customers because we've advised them one thing would be happening, but as it turns out thats not the way its going to happen at all.

The length of downtime is a complete non-issue .. if we were advised ahead of time there would be 5 hours downtime we wouldn't have a problem because we can set that expectation with our customers, who, like ourselves are extremely understanding about these things given advance notice! but are not very tolerant of unexpected outages no matter how short or long they may last.

Brangwyn - ditto here...

- take all the time you need, the end result sounds fantastic.
- we appreciate the advanced warning.
- if clients call we can explain it.

Just PLEASE do it when you said you would, 15 minutes can be a big deal if we were trying get an update in during those last 15 minutes. If your not sure, and that can happen, then please just say something like friday night between 11pm and 2 am. We will stay away during those hours.

- just dont get like the cable guy

Thanks for all of you hard work, we definitely appreciate it.

I have to say changing the plan after you make it does look very unprofessional and it does happen here more than I like. It doesn't make sense to make a plan tell everybody... then change it and not tell anybody, whether it was intended for our benefit or not. To me and others it seems erratic, as well, tho I genuinely appreciate the intent...it doesn't result in the intended outcome..sorry.
