New ColdFusion Server Online: cf.hsphere.cc
ColdFusion Server Online
*** SUBMIT YOUR REQUEST TO MOVE YOUR ACCOUNT BY MAY 1st, 2004 - COLDFUsION WILL BE REMOVED FROM THE NT SERVERS ON MAY 1ST, 2004! *** Vortech Inc. is moving all accounts with domains using ColdFusion to our new ColdFusion Server. To make the move as smooth as possible, please make sure all of your domains using ColdFusion are on a separate account on a ColdFusion Plan. Below are the steps to create a ColdFusion Plan. Please keep in mind that the ColdFusion servers is for CF sites ONLY. ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, Perl are available, but if you put a site on the CF servers that does not use Cold Fusion, it will be removed. 1) In your Admin Control Panel, click on the "Plans Creation Wizard" under "Info". 2) Select the "Windows Plan Wizard" 3) Under "Web Services" Select "ColdFusion" from the drop down menu next to "Logical Server Group (Windows web servers)". 4) Continue setting up the Plan using whatever other resources you would like and create it. Any new accounts you signup to this plan will be automatically added to the ColdFusion server. To move Coldfusion accounts from your Windows Plans to the ColdFusion Plan: 1) Click on "Plan Groups" under "Info" in your Admin Control Panel. 2) Check each box next to your Windows Plans that contain your ColdFusion accounts and type in a name for the group, then click Submit Query. 3)Login to the end user control panel for your ColdFusion site and click the "Change" icon next to the Plan name. 4)Select your ColdFusion Plan name from the drop down menu. Any resources that are in your Windows Plans that are not in your ColdFusion Plan (such as ASP, FrontPage, etc) will be deleted when you move the account. 5)After your plan has been changed, please submit a ticket to schedule a time for us to move your existing CF accounts to the ColdFusion Server. Please include the account username and your Reseller username. We plan to have all domains moved by May 1, 2004. If we are able to keep the schedule, we will remove CF from the existing NT servers the first week of May. To avoid any problems with your non-ColdFusion sites, we highly recommend that you keep them on a separate plans/accounts from your ColdFusion sites. *** INCLUDE ANY DSNS YOU NEED TRANSFERRED. ALSO, IF YOUR SITE USES SSL, BE SURE TO LET THE TECHS KNOW. YOUR SSL WILL BE UNAVAILABLE FOR A SHORT TIME WHILE THE MOVE OCCURS *** -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT We cannot move domains between accounts. We can only move accounts from one server to another. If you have multiple domains setup under a single user account, and only one of those domains is using ColdFusion, you will have to move it to a new account. Be sure to back up your site locally before deleting it. Once it is deleted, the site contents, email, etc will be deleted as well. Any information you need restored by us will be subject to our backup policy and a $60 charge per site and/or database. We do not backup email. First, remove the domain from the current account, then Create a new account (Using your ColdFusion plan) and add the domain to the new account. If H-Sphere assigns the domain new nameservers, these need to be updated with your Domain Registrar as soon as possible. Check this under Domain Settings and update the nameservers if necessary ASAP. This may cause a few hours of downtime, but if you perform this late at night, the DNS should be updated by the morning. Please note however, than DNS propagation can be up to 72 hours depending on your ISP's nameserver settings. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Submitting Server Aliases You will also need to submit the new server alias for cf.hsphere.cc: 1) Login into the Admin control panel. 2) Click EManager. 3) Click DNS Manager. 4) Click the Edit button to the right of DNS Zone. 5) Click the Edit button to the right of your Instant Alias address. 6) If there are Logical servers that need to be added, scroll to the bottom of the page and click "Add records to all listed logical servers". 7) Click Server Aliases under EManager. 8) If there are server aliases that need to be added, scroll to the bottom of the page click Submit. Just letting everyone know, we've sent out a 2nd announcement with some changes. ASP/ASPNET/PHP/Perl are allowed, but we don't recommend them.

In my opinion you either have to support them or not have them at all. |

Well, we have enough issues running CF on a server with all the other things... We just want to discourage people from using the server for non-CF sites.

Bladesnitz, you say:
In your Admin Control Panel, click on the "Plans Creation Wizard" under "Info".I'm looking at my hsphere control panel and I see no 'Web Services", nor do I see any "drop down menus" or "Logical Server Group" Am I in some older version of hsphere than what you are describing..? Thanks,

Have to agree w/ jmbeach. That just doesn't sound right. From a practical standpoint. Not to mention customer service. If it's on the server and it breaks then it can't be used; it's just takin up space and resources. |

Let me rephrase : "We dont encourage the use of non-CF code on the CF Server"
Of course we'll still have to support the rest, but CF is the primary focus. |

Is it absolutely necessary to create a NEW account? The reason I ask is that the only domain that uses CF is my service domain, which is right now is in my "corporate" account." Can I just not EDIT this account, by going to: Logical Server Group (Windows web servers), and choosing Cold Fusion?

You can edit the plan its on, and then u need to request the account be moved to the cold fusion server.
If you have multiple domains on the account, then you will have to make a new account for the CF domain. |

Thanks for the reply. I do have multiple domains, but only one that uses CF (the service domain). The others don't use CF, and a couple are subdomains of the service domain. In this scenario, I will still have to create a new account?

Do you have the other domains under your Service Domain's account?? I know the subdomains would be on the same account and you would have to leave those on the same account with the service domain if you wanted to keep them as subdomains. But the other domains should be moved to their own account on a non-ColdFusion plan to reduce instability on the ColdFusion servers.

Ok. It looks like I'll have to just make a new account, sounds like it'll just be easier. My only concern, and I know its been raised in other posts, is that this is a service domain, and I'm praying that it won't mess up any of my DNS settings. As long as my new account/plan has "service" checked, I won't have to mess with anything, other than recreating my domain, email boxes, etc... right?

Just one question (maybe a stupid one), i am a little confused about this Cf thing.
Currently i offer plans with CF as optional for exta $$ per month, does this mean that i would have to turn that off and create a separate plan just for Cf? Or would they still function, but you 'recommend' a separate plan. also is it wise to offer Cf only plans, i mean would the devlopers be put off form signing up, or is it normal to only have cf only support in the plans..? thanks, /johnny |

The best would be to have a plan thats only for CF customers. Any customer thats on the CF boxes must be using CF in some way. If we find customers with NO cf pages then they would be emailed and moved off the system.
We want to keep these systems as clean and CF only sites as we can to keep CF and everything else stable as we can, this is a little more work but it will make you and your customer happier in the long run if all services are more stable.. ![]()
