This is great news! I know one of my potential customers has been asking about CF support on my plans.
I remember from a post somewhere here that indicated that the cost per CF enabled domain would drop once/if there were dedicated servers for CF users (fewer server licenses required?). Is this still going to be the case? Also, any idea when 2.4 is expected to be ready? |

Well MX supports the 5 code as far as I know.. ( Not a CF coder. )
![]() I would like to get CF 5 and CF MX of all the boxes and get everyone moved in to one box. I think there is less then 100 sites here using CF 5 or CF MX so the system will be very under loaded.. We will add anther CF MX system as well to make sure we have room if need be.

Sounds like a fine idea. If you ASP/PHP guys gave CFMX a try, there'd be a lot more than the 100 or so sites running it now. I loved PHP at one time, but I don't even know what it stands for now!!! ![]() |

Using NT32 for all coldfusion MX--
-Re the ISOLATION Decision Questions and great concerns: 1. I have some very large sites that are slowly converting out of coldfusion and into .net. These sites are in "mixed mode" Your post #39 -- " Nothing else will be installed besides of course asp and .net but thats only for H-Sphere to use" What does this mean for these type of sites. 2. I have some static IP's that are resolved by outside name servers. When the sites move, will their static addresses go with them?? 3. Will /coldfusion/access driver support be available. for these older sites ?? 4. I really think we need a moving schedule by site so we can respond to the Problems that will be unexpected !! Maybe 3-4 sites per reseller per day? Maybe weekend moves? I can work with something reasonable! ![]() |

For people who need to "upgrade" from cf5:
Having upgraded about 20 sites from cf5 to cfmx Look out for the following : 1. Connection strings are not allowed in <cfquery> A great step backward!!! 2. The ".." and "." do now show up in <cfdirectory> 3. Many custom tags developed by third parties are broke for mx. In some cases there are upgraded verisons. 4. DNS connections are no longer automatic on the coldfusion server. They must be be entered by hand via the support staff via a trouble ticket. A colossal step back backwards. 5. There is a detailed list of non-supported cf5 features in the cfmx release notes. Hope this helps. |

I think tha cf devs should develop a little enrichment for the rest. I like macromedia stuff and cf works well w/ that. Yes it has overhead, but I have worked w/ other languages that do as well. Lord know asp does some weird stuff. I think it would be nice to get CF stable and more of it, but for you guys who know what your doing some input..like this thread would benefit everybody here who codes. The fact that they do really listen to their resellers is their biggest plus next to the support IMHO.

…Connection strings are not allowed in <cfquery> A great step backward!!! The cfquery tag (in MX) doesn’t support connection strings, but they can be entered using the CFMX Administrator. The set back - you have to submit a support ticket to get it done. Vortech doesn’t allow RDS access to the Administrator because of security concerns, which is understandable. If Vortech would upgrade to the Enterprise edition, stability and security would be greater because each site could run a separate instance of ColdFusion. Each would have their own little server process and developers could configure CFMX without a support ticket, affecting other sites, or jeopardizing security. _________________________________________ Dabelo said: …Many custom tags developed by third parties are broke for mx. Which ones don’t work? _________________________________________ Dabelo said: …DNS connections are no longer automatic on the coldfusion server. They must be be entered by hand via the support staff via a trouble ticket. A colossal step back backwards. I think you mean DSNs. They too have to be entered using the Administrator in CF5. Unless you're talking about a dynamic ODBC connection. But that’s a connection string and not a DSN (CFMX Enterprise Edition would eliminate the need for support intervention in adding DSN’s). _________________________________________ Dabelo said: …There is a detailed list of non-supported cf5 features in the cfmx release notes. Let’s get to just a few features that are not available in CF5: XML SUPPORT, CF COMPONENTS (one page of code that can perform multiple functions and can be invoked by any page in your application – very powerful & very cool), FLASH REMOTING (Imagine having several data grids on one page that can be populated dynamically with data from several different sources and then this data can be modified, inserted, deleted, searched & restricted (access/functions) based on user roles – all WITHOUT A SINGLE BROWSER REFRESH!). These three improvements alone make CFMX one great improvement over CF5. CFMX is a powerful tool. Give it a try. |

Great Stuff...
Hey, I have really appreciated everyone's input in this thread.
I have yet to develop a site in CF but I am really thinking about using it as my primary development language. This has been an agonizing decision. In light of that, I agree that a forum just for CF developer would be great! What do you think? The decision to isolate CFMX seems like a good solution; however, the idea of having to setup all our DB connections through a trouble ticket is kind of a pain. Any solutions or thoughts here? |

Well you have to submit a ticket right now if its on the web server or if it was on its own system. The issue is CF just needs the info for your DB(s) and H-Sphere does not work with CF in that way. It not that hard and only takes us a few sec. to do.
On the new systems because of how many issues we have seen with MS access we will not longer be able to support that at all on CF MX, but a upgrade to mssql will fix that problem and will be much better for the site anyway.
