Good news for all the IE fanatics out there ;) [Switch guide included]

There is a new interesting exploit out there that was made just for you!

Just click on a link that makes your favorite browser think that you're on microsoft.com and then download the .pdf file about security when in fact it's a deadly .exe. Your precious IE will not be aware of this and may ruin your day

Switch while you still can! Here is why :

Its no different then leaving your front door open or falling for a pigeon scam. People will always take advantage of others who are week or do not understand.

As long as you stay educated and do not do stupid things like click on the link to "free porno", or "security risk, click here now!" then you will be ok.

If you do not know what it does, DO NOT push the little red button!

You really don't have much of a clue if you go from a link on a page it can bring you to another one.

http://www.zapthedingbat.com/security/ex01/vun1.htm

This page shows the exploit of faking a web page address. If you read the main page and then click on the button it will bring you to a web page on their site but show www.microsoft.com in the address bar. It is very interesting to read about it.

This is new? I saw this crazy thing months ago. Its an IE basher utility and its only harmful to those whom surf irresponsibly in the darkest reaches of the net.

The URL spoofing is not new, and thanks for reminding us that M$ still hasn't fixed it in months

What's new is that now you can also spoof files, making you think that you download a pdf, when it's fact it's a HD eraser.

Most people here should know better and either drop IE or be extremely careful when surfing the net (waste of time to check everything, it's like walking on a mine field...).

The real problem occurs with our users who are not all as web savvy as we are.

IE+Netcaptor gives you everything you could possibly want in a browser imo, not like other browsers don't have securty flaws either.

Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB832894)
Download size: 2.8 MB, 2 minutes
Identified security issues in Internet Explorer could allow an attacker to compromise a Windows-based system. For example, an attacker could run programs on your computer while you view a Web page. This affects all computers with Internet Explorer installed (even if you don’t run Internet Explorer as your Web browser). After you install this item, you may need to restart your computer. Well the only problem is that apparently www.netcaptor.com is not hosted at Vortech , and when I went to check it this morning I could not connect.

Question Browser Suggestions

I've been using Avant www.avantbrowser.com for quite awhile but the newest releases seem to be having memory leak issues and crashing.

I have to stay within the IE world as virtually every site I build uses a CMS with editor.

Can anyone suggest another IE add-on, plug-in tabbed browser like Avant?

Brangwyn likes Netcaptor but I still like my browsers free.

I'm currently running Avant 9.01 101, IE6 and NS 7x and Mozilla for testing only. Oh yeah, NS 4.8 still holds a place of honor on my start menu.

I'm using Mozilla firebird at the moment. It's the first browser that I've ever used as a complete replacement for I.E and been completely happy with. It's lighter, downloads and delivers up the pages faster, has a cool plugin system and nice tab browsing and other features, and you don't even have to install it to use it (just unzip the files and point a shortcut at the .exe). Most of the security flaws I've seen posts about in IE don't seem to be an issue in firebird either.
