Earthquake

We just had a 4.5 quake. It was unsettling we are sw of richmond so we felt it pretty bad. Everyone came out and tried to figure out what was going on. Lived here since 76 and never felt one before. Hope not again.

Mild Earthquake Reported in Virginia
By Associated Press
December 9, 2003, 4:58 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Startled East Coast residents from North Carolina to Maryland were shaken Tuesday by an earthquake that registered a preliminary magnitude of 4.5.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred about 28 miles west of Richmond -- 104 miles south-southwest of Washington. There were numerous reports from people who felt it in three states and the District of Columbia.

Geological Survey spokeswoman Carolyn Bell said there were no immediate reports of damage.

Wow! My family is all in Western Virginia (not WEST Virginia), I hope they are safe. They live out in the middle of nowhere though, so no buildings around to fall on them

There have been reports of minor structural damage. I honestly never thought I would feel one. I am used to wind and water, but not the earth moving. I had just gotten up from the pc and the rumbling and shaking started. After a few seconds I knew this was something. lasted 15-20 secs, but that was enough. We are unusual in that we have natural gas...which was what really worried me. It was just a feeling you will never forget.

It's odd because it is out in the middle of nowhere. Not far from North Anna nuclear power plant. There's a comforting thought. Someone told me that they found a giant cliff like structure or cave similiar to Hawaiin geological structures that cause Sunamis off VA coast a few years ago. Not too comforting either. It's just weird how these things seem to come out of nowhere.

LOL...People who like gambling don't need much of an excuse.
If your in Vegas have to assume you will be eatin cheap and gambling

Not something I want to EVER get used to. We all came out on the street tryin to figure out what happened. Supposedly part of an earthquake fault(I believe San Andreas) runs thru VA, but I didn't think there was anything out there.
