Any Laptop Recommendations?

Well, my ThinkPad 390E is finally toast and I am in the market for a new laptop. I use this as a secondary computer, mainly for offsite presentations and for when I travel. There is a new ThinkPad G40 on the market that looks nice but I always buy ThinkPads but it's been a few years since my last portable. Anybody have any good recommendations or a laptop they particularly like? I'm looking to spend less than $1,500 so my options are limited. I want:

14" or higher display
512MB or higher RAM
20GB or higher HD
Internal Wifi would be nice
- Processor not important
- Video stuff not important
- extras not important
- os not important

So far I have looked at the Dell Inspirons (5100 and 1100) and the ThinkPad G40.

i saw one of those laptops demonstrated that the top can swivel entirely and be face-up, and you use a pen device, scribble, click the button and it becomes text. damn nice. i think i actually dribbled.
can't tell you what it was called (tablet pc maybe) or how much, but my mate reckoned they were only 10% more expensive than a standard laptop.
ramjet...techno-dunce.

I really like My sony laptop, and know several other sony owners that love theirs.

Overall, I have been unimpressed with the tablet PCs, they are about 10% more expensive than a laptop, but 50% less of everything, CPU, RAM, HD, and general features.

Thanks guys. I'll check out the Sony's. They have always seemed a little cheap looking to me, but in all honesty I've never used one. For desktops I always buy Dell no matter what, but a company I used to consult for had terrible luck with their laptops a few years ago so I've always been leery. And as far as the ThinkPads, man, I've just always loved those things so I would not be surprised if I end up with one again.

p.s. Brangwyn, those Alienwares look pretty badass alright, but way outsite of my budget and it's pretty safe to say I don't need a screaming gaming machine for LAN parties . The last game I played on a computer was Doom I.

i use the dell x200. i love it. take it everywhere and then use it as desktop when not on road, I purchased the doking module as well. i do all of my development on it. weight was the big deal for me. i got it when i was home recovering from a car accident.

Dell Laptops

I have been quite fond of my Dell Inspiron 8000 laptop. I've had it 2 years this month. I bought it specifically to start my Web hosting business. I developed both of my Web sites and run the entire operation directly from it.

Yeah, I've got the awesome desktop which I do video NLE on but the laptop still rocks and is good enough to do everything for my business. However, I do not like Dell's new line of laptops (the silver ones).

Dell Lattitudes are nice business machines and the 3 year on site warranty is a real life saver if you're serious about your business.

I saw some new Sony notebook recently. Nice machines.
2.15kg
14"
Wifi & Bluetooth
Nice smooth design
