Both of these issues have been resolved now, everything seemed fine after the CP went down and then came back up this afternoon. Thanks =)

Actually, there is a significant difference between network uptime, server uptime and site availability. I DO think that having any guarantee like that needs to be clearly spelled out. I would not make a guarantee like that to customers w/out making sure it is true. They address availability in the TOC. The bottom line is what you actually experience. My concern is that some of the downtime due to maintainence seems to happen during the day and evening(us eastern time), which for asia and europe might be less of a hassle. It can be pretty diff to host to so many countries out of 1 physical location tho

I know there is a difference between those but the truth of the matter is that DOWNTIME IS DOWNTIME no matter if it has to do with the network, server, or site availability.

I wasn't implying that you didn't. And I agree 100% that downtime is downtime. I was just clarifying for others who may not be clear on this. From what we are experiencing and what admin said there is obviously alittle miscommunication going on.

My main point is that it should be spelled out in the TOC and/or SLA. I sure wouldn't tell anybody there was 99.9% uptime goin on here lately. Because to most people they look at site availability. It is all the matters anyway and you do what is in your power to provide this or people leave.

As stated before, that 99.9% uptime is a catch phrase, people feel safe when reading this until they read the fine prints...I think admin should update his gif to avoid confusion, the current picture is very misleading.
The problem is that by adding the word "network", customers will start to ask themselves why is network stated and what's the server uptime then?

This makes me think about the netsaint stats...Since Hshpere uses a combination of server, when calculating a site's availability, you have to add the downtime of all the needed servers except if they go down at the same time. And netsaint can't monitor everything. I'm pretty sure it wasn't aware that we repeatedly could not send mail with our scripts.

Anyway I would never state 99.9% uptime on one of my shared hosting sites. Even with a refund, you're at a big loss.
