Sending mail from webserver

Some time back I had problems sending mail from my script using mail.hsphere.cc as the mail server ("cannot relay")

I was told at the time to use "localhost" instead which has been working fine ever since.

Now I find that that using "localhost" has been failing for the last 2 weeks, and I have a very irate customer !!

Yet it now works when I specify mail.hsphere.cc as the server.

What is the correct way to send mail from a web server? This particular site is on NT10 but I'm hoping there is a common answer for all web servers and will be reliable in the long term.

The problem was mail.hsphere.cc had relay problem that we have now fully fixed. The problem using localhost on NT is SMTP server on there can fail or just stop out of the blue.. mail.hsphere.cc or mail.yourservicedomain.com will now work for any one on our network now and should work forever.

hi, am I right to say that "mail.hsphere.cc" now ALLOWS relaying to domains NOT on matrix's network?

I would guess (and hope!) that this is only the case for machines inside vortech's network (eg. vortech webservers)

Otherwise it would be wham spam thank you mam!

Hmmm...and now what? Posts don't work?

You're lucky to be on NT10 to send your emails, it has been impossible to get a reliable sendmail on unix for over a month and a half...

It breaks 10 times a day, this is nightmarish. What kind of hosting can one do without being able to receive emails from scripts?

somereseller, use the mail server and it skips sendmail on the server. We are still looking in to your problem as well as you seem now to be the only with that problem.

Most scripts rely on sendmail and I've never had a single problem with this before.

I cannot add smtp just like that to say, oscommerce per example, it's not implemented.

But, you're telling me that if you setup a script on one of your accounts on unix, it works without a glitch?

I can't believe it's my account only (maybe because I went through 3 upgrades already) and don't understand why it works with emails sent outside this network and not to the ones sent on this network.

Internal mails must go in a loop of some sort.

Can you confirm that it's unix. only or my account only, so that I can put some test setups in place.

One more thing, what do I have to do when it hangs? Send 10 tickets a day?
I have to wait for 30 minutes plus every time.

damn it.. Ok well i am going to work on it some more..

We have kind of found the problem at least we thought we did.. Send mail was que up about 500 emails an trying to send them all at once.. This is also what keeps killing HTTPD at random.. But i just looked and sendmail still looks fine to me.
