Thumbs down Bad server management

What I hate the most about a host is unscheduled server changes and downtime.

We have a perfect example of this right now, right here at Matrix.

You take time to build a business based on available server technologies and all the sudden Matrix changes some components without telling you.

I find this pretty unaceptable when you try to make money by selling solutions.

They have been notified over 10 hours ago and don't even take 1 minute to acknowledge. Highly unprofessional imo to leave your customers in the dark like that....

Server downtime happens, you have to take measures to prevent it from happening and it's not allways easy to find the problem, but this kind of bad server management is really disappointing.

I'll sumarize:
PHP was downgraded, modules removed. Zend optimizer has vanished.

Hello security holes, etc.

Well, if you did anything decent with PHP, you're f***ed.

I am really getting sick of you I hate to say it..

Its not poor hosting its poor you... What i hate is a some one that THINKS they know what they don't

Here is your ticket and read it very well..

A: Also here it is right from command line..

C:\PHP>php -v
4.2.3

[Sep 17, 2002 10:46:17 PM]
A: Hmmm, php-4.2.3-installer.exe is what was used to upgrade nt9 and n10 its not 4.1.2 I can really check as there is no domain in the email so i have no idea what server your talking about here..

Sorry about the downtime as i have been out most of the day. But unless php.net messed up I have no idea what happend as I downloaded it right from there site my self.

[Sep 17, 2002 10:42:48 PM]

Every one was also told about the upgrade as well. Yet again this is crap i am talking about TICKET or POST make up your damn mind.

Maybe you should REREAD my first post "PHP wreckage". I know what I'm talking about, it's not an NT issue.

About ticket and posts :
I first posted in the reseller only forum to get some explanation, because I cannot test every unix# server, The bad situation was verified on unix.hsphere.cc

A couple of minutes later, the ticket was sent because it's the appropriate thing to do of course if one wants the situation to be fixed.

And yes, I forgot to mention in the ticket that this concerned the unix servers only, but the answers I got can't be serious...If you've installed 4.2.3 on every NT server and someone tells you that there is a 4.1.2 that has been installed, is it too much to ask to take two secs to check unix. ? I don't mean, test all 12 servers, if you cannot identify the problem quickly, then yes ask the customer to give more info.

Every one was told about the upgrade? Where? When? My mailbox only has a message about a router maintenance. And since this is a downgrade....

I don't mind your tone when it's justified. I'm probably more pissed than you are about this.

What will you do to prevent this from happening again.

(Is there something that you can do, besides asking Psoft to get their act together?)

I just know now to keep an eye on what psoft updates better. I don;t erase the directories after I install something so its just a matter of typing make install in a few directories when they do this. I will see if there is a way to keep them from being able to do this but that a pretty wide scope they reverted a lot of stuff.
