Yes. I use a third party monitoring service and NT44 seems to be going down almost everyday for about 45-60 minutes - usually overnight around 1am.

Nagios reports "CRITICAL - Socket timeout after 10 seconds " on NT44. I'm having problems with NT40, which is listed on nagios as "Connection refused". Hopefully this will all be corrected momentarily.

I believe the NT boxes are still set to reboot every night around 1 am EST.

so what about customers outside of the US
Just wondering if thats acceptable as not all of VT customers are US based. in my case sites have lately been going down everyday at 3 pm(australian time)
I have been with VT for a reasonable amount of time and this has only recently reared its head |

I have been struggling with many dead times during the day for both NT45 and our sites on a FreeBSD, plus time outs on MySQL5 every day for a month, it is really hurting our business but support says everything is normal.
All my sites are current down on more than one box but that happens periodically everyday now. If someone gets a reasonable answer I would be very happy to hear of it. Ours is a very seasonal selling business and having clients unable to place orders it very expensive for us, we have lost far more than the cost of a few new servers just in the last week. What is worse is getting a bad reputation as an unreliable business due to web site failures every day at various times for .5 to 4 hours. What gives? I've written more TTs in the last month that in the last 4 years. The most informative reply has been "you site is back up now" Why was it down serveral times a day for the prior week? We even had a credit processor deny our application for an addtional card service/gateway account because they could not verify that we even had an ecommerce site since each time they checked it was unavailable. Frustrated |

That unfortunately what can happen on a shared host... and I can attest to support being good at times, and very slow to respond at others. Some times it takes several emails back in forth to get a server reset when it could have been handled on the first request... I guess they feel the need to confirm problems but some times its just not possible when the problems are access driver related and/or incremental. But I digress... seriously if you are losing that much money by the outages why haven't you brought the servers in house or at the very least gone dedicated??

I see and appreciate your points, but the simple fact of the matter is alot of us outsource our customers hosting due to all of the considerations of hosting sites inhouse, the resources neccessary to do this successfully, not to mention cost.
In my case the server seems to go down daily at the same time almost to the point where you can set your watch by it, hardly something that we could attest to poor programming or access driver problems. We pay VT for a reliable hosting service and at this point in time my customers on nt44 are not getting that. VT response to my ticket was "We've rebooted the server" For which I was greatful the support staff have always done their best to resolve problems. The response from senior admin was "NT44 has some issues we are working through. It is slated to be replaced in the next few weeks." While Im happy that the issue should resolve itself with a new box installed putting up with a daily crashing web server is just not acceptable. Our business reputations are tied to in someways to the service VT provide and I sometimes wonder if they feel that this relationship is important |

I totally understand we too are very dependant on Vortech for their services and realiability issues definitely effect more then just our website (and our clients websites), our reputation is just as much on the line if not more so then Vortech because they are behind the scenes. No one knows that Vortech is resposible for upkeep, only that our site is down.
I'm not sure if the issue is what I mentioned they once had a policy of rebooting the servers every night because of the problems caused by memory leaks etc in the numerous sites that are sharing the server (hard to control skill of programmers). Since there are people of all experience levels putting up sites on these boxes there are going to be reliability issues. Our only hope is that bad scripts are weeded out quickly and that the servers are maintained and watched closely. I can't say what the maintenance schedules are, or even that the servers are watched all that closely... it seems more often then not we become aware of problems long before Vortech does, and some times its a painful exchange of emails and time in between before they are resolved. These are issues we've had and we put up with them becuase for the most part, when things are going well (and as expected), there is no reason to complain. The price is/was good, though the competition have been dropping prices like hot potatos. Its a hard business to be in and really its not one I would want to be in directly... but our service is entirely dependant on reliable hosting more-so then anything else. Its extremely frustrating when things don't go as expected, but all in all Vortech I think does a good job. I've been with other hosts who had worse problems so I have a different perspective on it.

Well said
Yes Im in complete agreement for all the same reasons by and large vortech do a great job. I hope vortech read this as their success is largely based on the success and confidence of their customers I sometimes worry as Im of the opinion that the larger companies get the poorer the service(generally)
