AWEN THIS IS FOR YOU MAKE SURE YOU READ THIS ONE. This is what caused some of the issues of people not seeing things as being up. When really everything was up but not MAIL2 as LEVEL(3) blocked it with out telling us. So yes we told people it was up and it was even from out side the network, but not mail2 if you happend to get routed over Level(3).


From my other POST:

The varied results came from Level(3) null routing the IP with out us asking, we did not know about them null routing and did not think of it as the attack was coming in over Cogent we had no idea Level(3) even saw any of the attack. Thats of course caused other issues we had to figure out. To us it was back up as we were going over cogent as other were but then some said it was still down. If you look at the posts above they are all Level(3) routes coming in.

Had we asked them to block it we would not of had this issue. They did it on there own and tried to tell us we had to now wait 24 hours to have it removed. They gave us some stupid story that I just found way to hard to understand about the attack affecting there managed services. No clue how our little line from them could affect there managed services. LoL

This is the nature of computers and networks etc. What's the nature of viruses (viri) and their AUTHORS -- to cause damage or destruction. What's the nature of spyware and their AUTHORS? The same.

Vortech is the ONLY company to ever ADMIT what happens to them or what happened internally (hard drive filled up, etc).

And seem to be the MOST liberal (not conservative) in the area of upgrades, building their network, and trying their dammedness to keep everyone happy with incredibly low rates.

The motivation of virus makers have traditionally been respect and credibility within "the scene". My guess is that this still is a motivation factor for most virus makers. Though the last few years we've seen a shift toward other goals with virus' as well, and the real purpose for several of the viruses have been to establish botnets for various usage. Lately there's also been a few viruses which are more financially motivated, for example taking documents hostage (IOW encrypting them) and claiming they only will be released once a ransom is paid...

For spyware authors I'd guess the (major and maybe only) motivation actually is financial. Though for the average user it would be hard to differentiate the havoc caused by this malware from the havoc caused by viruses...

But all of that is really beside the point.

I also appreciate Vortech's openness when it comes to what happened. Though, as several others here, I would have liked to receive this information faster (though then again that will probably be the case regardless of how fast we receive the information). I've been calling all morning "Tech support is available 24 hours a day, currently there is no one available to take your call" WTH is that?

I can't get into my control panel on one of my accounts, all the others work fine.

I was referring to a recording to be used for these situations, (total 'blackout') not a backup of the voice recording system.

Is mail2 down again? I noticed that I had no email (not even spam) this morning. I sent myself an email and did not receive the test email nor a bounce.,

I noticed the same thing. I just posted a support ticket and am waiting for the response (actually, I have to update the support screen all the time since my incoming email is not working).

Last incoming email was about 12 hours ago (approx 19:00 EDT Sat)

I hate to be a nudge, but I haven't seen any activity on this forum for 3 hours since my post. My email (on mail2) has been down all this time. My support ticket has also not had any responses from support, other than a message 3 hours ago stating that it was being "forwarded to admin..."

I would really appreciate an update.

Nothing wrong with mail2 from what we are seeing here. I just asked one of the techs there and they have no issues with the server. Maybe just your account(s) are having some kind of issue.

I am closing this post as this is not the place to post these kinds of things that are unrelated to the network issue.
