the opt-in thing? Can't blame them for that really. Or something else?

thought I'd resurrect this if for no other reason in that I'm bored.

Spent last week with the family in a beach house in Nags Head, NC. Wonderful vacation. Never been there before and truly enjoyed sitting on the beach and doing nothing except being a father.

Course the rental had high speed internet so I could take care of business, but it was very very relaxing.

What are your plans for vacation this year?

I am taking my kids on the annual trip to Cedar Point -- best roller coaster park in the world-- as i am sure chris can attest... week after the fourth.

just got back from San Fran -- took a trip with just me and the wife -- first time in 11 years -- it was great.

sure wish i was a school teacher around this time of year -- i would kill for three months off.

baseball with the boys is going great and my youngest looks like she will be a great little ball player come next year.

just lookin' forward to more grillin' out and chillin' on the deck -- while installing a new water softener, painting the deck and fence and figuring out when to bring the roofing crew in -- or when i can afford to bring them in

have a great saturday

i only get to take "days off" in onesee, twosee type fashion -- long weekends, etc.

i consider those vacations

belated happy fathers day for those that are "in the club"

Any day with sunshine, even from my office window is a vacation day for me Too bad here in Michigan, its so rare!

Oh and I'd like to second the Cedar Point remark... I love that place, have gone so many times now its hard to keep track. Its only a 2.5 hour drive for me and its a blast.

Next time you go, you should check in to Put-In-Bay. Its one of the Islands and you can camp or better get a room for the weekend. Take the boat over, and have a blast the Island is a blast. There are several unique bars, you can go tours of the caves, enjoy the local made wine, its like mardi gras on any given night.

Take "the Rocket" (a big, fast boat) to Cedar Point. You get a round trip and no parking fees.

Its not as cheap as the typical Cedar Point trip but its hella fun.

speaking of Fathers day, I would like to share just a little bit about my children here if i may...

for those of you that have children, and i mean more than one child, i hope this resonates a bit with you and that i am not a total odd ball in my thoughts.

All three of my children are completely wonderful, but mostly all at differnt times and in completely different ways. Each one of them has a special 'favorite' ranking in my heart and it is times like Fathers day that really get me thinking about how wonderful they truly are.

My nine year old, for example... he is daddy's little tech geek in the making. He and i can discuss video cards and mother boards. Rollercoaster tycoon and Xbox Games are our little shared things. He even helped me wire and set up a media extender a couple of weeks ago -- right before i gave him a stereo for his birthday -- we even love the same kind of music -- green day, matrix soundtrack and the like.

then i have my seven year old... man is he the best. He loves all things outdoors and sports -- and he is a total snuggler. We went to a minor league baseball game the other night and he sat on my lap and talked baseball with me for nearly 5 hours. This kid loves to come to my 9 and ten year old team practice and he is competitive with these kids -- it is great. We can canoe together all day and plan to camp on an island over night later this summer on one of our trips.

Finally, i have my little 5 year old -- she is truly a gift. She says things to me like "daddy, i miss you when you go to work all day" -- she runs up to me every night when i come home and loves to be held -- she asks me how my day was, she tells me about her day, the clothes she wore, the shoes she likes -- you know all that girl stuff that i don't get from her brothers. She loves to try new things and last week she asked to come to practice with her brothers and hit some balls off the tee.

i can truly say, without a doubt that the single best thing i ever decided to do with my life was to have children.

Don't get me wrong... some days i want to run for the hills and never come back, but most days it is the one thing that makes me feel like I am doing something worthwhile...

oh, well... enough of my ramblings...

skyline...

my aunt and uncle have a place on middle bass island... we hang out there all the time and cruise over to put in bay -- hit some bars and cruise back...

ohio is pretty cool in my opinion... lived there for the first 14 years of my life and would love to go back...

Now that they have a decent basketball team, I might be obliged to agree

Its nice to hear about your family. Its crazy how much we take for granted, and kids are great at making you realize what's really important in life.

My daughter will be 2 in September (http://www.emilyjewel.com/ [yeah a webpage]). I don't know what I'd do if I had a "real" job

Although its a lot of headaches and hard work getting started working from home, the payoff is worth it IMO. Time is a currency people are so eagerly willing to part with... IMO life is too short not to appreciate the little time we have.
