ALL Windows (NT/CF/MSSQL) Boxes 10/13/2005

All Windows hosting-related boxes will be running Microsoft Updates tonight. At the completion of the updates on each box, they are being cycled to allow the updates to take effect. Therefore, all boxes are going to be restarted at least once between 2-4AM Eastern time. Anticipated downtime on each box will be between 1-2 minutes as Windows restarts, and more time if the individual server decides to run a CHKDSK which we do not have control over.

These updates are necessary to keep the Windows boxes up and running efficiently and as securely as possible. Thank you for your understanding.

I am almost through half of the machines and already several boxes are taking a long time to restart during this process. NT was running a long CHKDSK, and most of the others were completing scripts that run on the first initial boot after updates are patched.

Please do not send any tickets to the helpdesk regarding NT sites being down until after 4am eastern time this morning, or you will receive a response directing you to this post. I will advise when updates are complete with an additional post in this thread.

NT26 has apparently shut itself off instead of rebooting after updates were installed, so once the rest of the servers are complete I will enter the Datacenter to manually start NT26 back up before the 4am window expires. I apologize for the inconvenience this may cause to anyone on that particular machine.

NT26 and NT30 are now answering requests again. NT26 had to be manually rebooted from the Data Center, and IIS failed while I was correcting NT26's issue. NT6 has also encountered an IIS failure and I am taking care of that now. As of this post, all Updates have been completed and the maintenance window will expire in about nine minutes. Afterwards, you can resume trouble tickets for any NT issues you seem to be experiencing.

All servers are in working order once again. Thank you for your patience this morning as I took care of these necessary updates.
