NT38 Hardware Exchange 12/14/05

We will be replacing the hardware on NT38 today. We will be shutting down the FTP and H-Sphere services while we perform a live mirror. This will make the server as read-only as possible while maintaining web access. Please do not make changes to your files until after the hardware is changed out. We will announce when it is complete.

There will be about 5-10 minutes of downtime while the new server is booted after the mirror.

If you go to your admin control panel and search your clients then click the Account ID of each windows client, it should list the box they are on...

We are not sure of the total time to copy the drive, we are able to do this live. Total down time will be about 5 to 10 min about the time for a reboot to come up on new hardware maybe even less.

I NEVER use ftp because something ALWAYS goes wrong .. I've tried using the shell but u have to that file by file .. the control panel won't let me enable it but won't tell me what the 'required resources' are .. .a free ftp prog from coffecup keeps flipping out and hogging resources before i even get to put a user name in , i tried the browser .. seemed to be stuck.. so I turned to fp even that seemed to take forever .. so i dragged and dropped.. that works..... it ONLY happens to me...i'm learning how to use wordpress and making a new blog ... so was the slow upload due to changes or is it just my jinx?

I'm at this point http://frontpage-blog.com/wp-admin/install.php in my process... I get an error is this because of the changes or am I using the wrong host name? there are two .. one for the plan and one for the domain I'm using this for ... is it something I'm doing wrong or are the changes going on?

The system is up, we still are working on the mirror drive to make sure we get it up and get it up right. We are trying to go from raid to non-raid and from a raid card to a non-raidcard, it's more less just little driver issues we just want to be sure before we make the switch and put it live on the new hardware we get it right. But we are not going to have any long outages unless NT38 wants to take another dive on it's own. But we are working hard to fix it's issues 100%.

How are you compensating for file and database (access) changes that are happening after the files are copied? Looks like I'll be losing data during that time.

In the future, these changes should really happen at the low hours, not the peak hours. This is the time of day ads are posted, forums are used, etc.

mmm I looked at the service status and it said there were problems with ftp ....
sorry but I can't understand all that .. are you saying ftp is not working? should I submit a ticket with my username and pw so you can check that's not the problem? Should I be using the host name on the plan or on the domain?

FTP was going to be disabled whilst the mirror was done Tina. Everything should be working again at some point.

been almost 4 hours since someone posted, what ended up happening ?

FTP is up for now. You can also make changes to your CP. We are only left with 3 possibilities at this point to make this work, and I need to test one tomorrow before I take down the box again to do it for real. Bear in mine, we may have to take down FTP and CP changes again tomorrow, but not unless we are 100% sure this procedure is going to work.
