2004-04-07 Connectivity from Australia and New Zealand

We've had reports that users on several ISPs have trouble reaching our network. At least Clear and Paradise in NZ as well as IInet in Oz are having some transpacific connectivity issues. We'll blame Telstra since that's the Proper Thing To Do but the truth is that we're not entirely sure where the problem lies except that it's definitely to the west of us. I've had some routes hang in Texas and California, and others time out after getting through to NZ.

I understand that the ISPs concerned are aware of it and can advise their users.

Connectivity restored about 2 minutes ago

Paradise and Clear are both owned by the same company (Telstra) it looks to me as if Cogent was either null routing, or certainly incorrectly routing traffic from the above ISP's block.

Thanks heaps for the info guys! I'm in Perth, Oz, and was getting a wee bit worried that I hadn't paid my account or something.

Everything seems back on track now.

Nope, iinet. And by the time their support dept. responds, the problem is usually over anyway.
