Earthquake

We just had a 4.5 quake. It was unsettling we are sw of richmond so we felt it pretty bad. Everyone came out and tried to figure out what was going on. Lived here since 76 and never felt one before. Hope not again.

Mild Earthquake Reported in Virginia
By Associated Press
December 9, 2003, 4:58 PM EST

WASHINGTON -- Startled East Coast residents from North Carolina to Maryland were shaken Tuesday by an earthquake that registered a preliminary magnitude of 4.5.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake occurred about 28 miles west of Richmond -- 104 miles south-southwest of Washington. There were numerous reports from people who felt it in three states and the District of Columbia.

Geological Survey spokeswoman Carolyn Bell said there were no immediate reports of damage.

Wow! My family is all in Western Virginia (not WEST Virginia), I hope they are safe. They live out in the middle of nowhere though, so no buildings around to fall on them

*....and Brad puts my mind at ease*

I'm just glad that you didn't mis-spell or mis-use the phrase "big crack"

Take it from a life long Southern Californian - 4.5 for us is about the equivalent of a gentle breeze.

Then again, considering that out here what's not fastened to the foundation is glued in place helps with the damage factor

From winter storms to earthquakes - I feel for you east coasters.

It's kinda weird hearing folks who have never felt an earthquake before, we just kinda take them for granted around here.

Yes, 4.0-4.5 is good for shaking my martini's.

Glad no one was hurt.
