front page and front page extension experts???

hello all...

my client uses front page on a windows hosting plan. they have just discovered that "webs" that have been created below the "root web" of their site are accessible via front page without a username and password.

if i reset or fix front page extensions, it behaves correctly, but the client then needs to republish the files for the borders, etc. to work.

please, no suggestions regarding the 'not using front page' -- i know that part, and i hate front page. This is one of my biggest accounts and they insist upon it!

thanks for any and all help...

sounds like a TT to me - Alex and Dave have been trying to help me with a Frontpage issue where the built in mail component shows an hsphere.cc email address on messages that go out. I finally threw up my hands and switched it over to FormMail, but your issue sounds like something they could probably handle.

Let he who created FrontPage be forever condemned to suffer a fate worse than he who created the Macarena

Interesting... there are some tools available you http//www.YOURDOMAIN.com/_vti_bin/_vti_adm/fpadmdll.dll that may shed some light on the issue... check the settings there.

soky, are you sure that dll is installed on all FP webs? I have the folders _vti_bin/_vti_adm - but it's empty.

Sure? I'm never sure on virtual hosts ESPECIALLY with FP... However, I have found that hosts with FP2002 extensions installed (and enabled) contain the fpadmdll.dll if not directly... then virtually.

hmmm... not exactly sure how to remedy this, but no matter I put FormMail in for this customer instead, so that I don't (and Matrix staff doesn't) have to scratch our heads wondering how to fix this.

Thanks for the tip soky.

jmbeach - your problem rings some faint bells from the far away days when a company I work for insisted on using FP. This is probably not going to help you much...but I'm pretty sure there's some setting in FP (on the client side) and when you use it, FP brings up a warning that if you do this "subwebs will be accessible without authentication" or similar. I would hazard that your client said "OK" to this warning at some stage?

Also, maybe the following MS KB article will help in setting the correct permissions on the subwebs?

thanks logic, but I'm not the one who had the question about permissions - it was boot (first post).

I was having trouble with the built in mailer
