The server has run into a problem, we're checking the disks currently. If all is OK, it should be back shortly.

John,
It has been almost an hour and the server is still down. Is there any update? |

It looks like the server has experienced a rather severe issue. We are currently looking at making the decision to reinstall the O/S.

CLARIFICATION:
We are going to reinstall SQL, not everything on the server. Re-install to begin in the next 5 minutes..... |

MSSQL 2k is reinstalling now. I am going to reinstall it upgrade it to SP3 then put all data back in the data dir. This should fix the issue. I hate reinstalling any thing but this was about the only fix MS had.

I understand things happen, but my client is not happy that their web application has been down for several hours. Of course in their eyes, it is my fault.
I am not a DBA, but it occurs to me that there are several different SQL Server boxes. I understand the need to distribute the load, however is there any options to designate different servers, ie set my connection string to MSSQL4.domainname.com? If that option is possible -- could arrange for a syncronized database copy between more than 1 server. If so, I could handle load balancing by alternating connection strings on session start for the web application. But beyond load balancing, within the web application I could use a fallback connection string if the first server fails. It would be relatively simple for me not reattempt a failed connection for an hour, and provide users with a message should all connections fail. So far I have been satisified with the hosting service, but these small problems reflect poorly upon me as the web developer. I propose this concept as a solution to minimize down-time caused by unforeseen problems. If this is feasible, please assist me in configuring the server. Scott Friend Database Mentors |

I'm still having issues. Only 1 of 3 SQL databases are responding.

I had no problems with connecting via Query Analyzer. The web app was not connecting and I recieved a general network error. I then changed the connection string from MSSQL2.domainname.com to 216.157.131.30 and it seemed to work. But aver a couple database hits it happened again.

Still having problems.
The web application gives this error (on IE) : Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open database requested in login 'fradmin_sql-aa'. Login fails. The query analyzer gives this error: Database 'fradmin_sql-aa' cannot be opened due to inaccessible files or insufficient memory or disk space. See the SQL Server errorlog for details.
