problem setting up domains
I'm having a problem with a client who has 2 domain names that should point to the same website.
Ok, this client has 2 domain names(hunterdonprevention.org & hprinfo.org). Now, the 1st one, hunterdonprevention.org, is a name that I registered & it's under my GoDaddy account. The dns' are pointing to ns1.yottasoftwaresolutions.com & ns2.yottasoftwaresolutions.com The 2nd name, hprinfo.org, was a name registered by their old host. I recently got the host to switch the dns info over to: ns2.yottasoftwaresolutions.com & ns3.hsphere.cc So far so good right(i hope)? Now however is where I'm having the problem. What is my next step that I need to take to make sure that both names point to the same website? Currently hunterdonprevention.org works fine but the 2nd one that I am trying to add is where I'm experiencing my problem. thanks in advance. -Goalie35 |

Nope, you should never have ns3.hsphere.cc.
What happenned to ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com? Instead of adding a domain for hprinfo.org and redirecting users, why not just set it up as an alias for hunterdonprevention.org |

You're right, I would much rather set this up as an alias but unfortunately, hprinfo.org is already a registered domain by my client's old host which means I can't set it up as an alias right now. How can I set it up this way? Do I need to have this old host drop the name? Thanks again. -Goalie35 |

Okay, I'm going to scream, the timeout for the new version of the forum has changed. This is the second time I have taken time to post a solution and it is lost. AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay, that is out of my system. I know it will be fixed once the tweaks are done, I'm just stressing. Now for the short version of everything I just typed and lost. First, Make sure you have ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com set up correctly in emanager of your reseller cp Second, you need to have the old host change ns3.hsphere.cc to ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com for hprinfo.org Why does the old host have to do this, doesn't your client have the registrar userid and password for that domain. you could go in and change it. This would be the time to have you listed as the technical contact if you want Third, Decide if you want to keep hprinfo.org as the domain you added and them redirect everyone or create an alias Fourth, If you decided to go the alias route 1) Login to the user's cp 2) click domain settings in the left menu 3) if hprinfo.org is listed as a domain, trash it 4) return to the domain settings list 5) for hunterdonprevention.org click edit 6) At the bottom under domain aliases click add 7) Type in hprinfo.org and check create dns zone 8) click submit ok, now once the ns3 nameserver is updated and propogrates and ns2 which was updated on 11/3 propagates throughout the net, any url's going to hprinfo.org should go to hunterdonprevention.org but say hprinfo.org in the url. The big deal here is 1)to makesure your ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com is listed correctly in your reseller emanger/dns 2)you've registered ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com at the registrar for yottasoftwaresolutions.com 3) update the domain servers for hprinfo.org from ns3.hsphere.cc to ns3.yottasoftwaresolutions.com 4)after the nds is correct decide on using the domain with a redirect or the domain alias scenario Okay I'm now copying this to my clipboard before I hit submit reply so I don't have to scream. |

when I take time to post a reply, i hit post reply and i get the you are not loggied in message, when i then login i've lost my reply and have to start over. i thought a while back you upped the timeout session.
Another minor issue, i can't seem to get it to remember me when i come here from a link in the email. i never had that problem before the upgrade. i just keep loggin in and clicking remember me |

LOL, gadgetgal...I've had that happen before, as well, not vortech's fault tho..don't think so anyway.
I, too would be concerned about why another host has "ownership" of someone's domain. You should be able to transfer the rights. Makes for a bad situation. |
