Urchin UTM Files

Hey Guys,

Trying to get some help with Urchin on these Visitors & Sessions and Client Parameters. These two areas are showing 0 data and I have been trying to figure it out. Urchin is showing reports and data for all areas except Visitors & Sessions and Client Parameters. I contacted technical support on # XDZ-65747 and indicated that these areas were not showing anything.

They sent me a link regarding the UTM: http://help.urchin.com/index.cgi?id=999

This link indicates that in order to see data in the Visitors & Sessions and Client Parameters areas you must install two small files:

__utm.js
__utm.gif

You must also install code in your pages to call the script.

<script src="/__utm.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

You can confirm that it is being called by reviewing your raw log files to see if __utm.gif is listed. If so, then it will collect and log the data. Its is being called as my logs reflect this.

I did this 24+ hours ago but it still shows 0 data in the Visitors & Sessions and Client Parameters areas. I called tech support this time but it was a dead end. I searched the forums and I can not find topics where anyone has had a problem or anything for that matter about these __utm files. So the questions beg:

1. Is anyone else getting stats in their Visitors & Sessions and Client Parameters areas?
2. Did anyone have to perform the __utm file and page code mod to get it to work?
3. If you did the __utm files and page code, did you do anything special?

Thanks for any help.

We have to give you the __utm.js and __utm.gif from our install anther set of these may not work.. We are testing these now on matrixreseller.com and will have support once I show all the techs how to set our part up in urchin for it..

But it will not with out the right 2 files and us turning UTM on for you in urchin.. I did not even know about that part till friday I think it was someone pointed it out in the demo on urchin so I had to call urchin up..

Will we have UTM2? (Sounds logical, but just want to make sure)

somereseller, why would you even be interested in UTM2 since you don't use urchin??

Brad, check here:

http://help.urchin.com/index.cgi?id=999

and here:

http://help.urchin.com/index.cgi?&id=1451

It looks like UTM-2 is the latest generation and specific name for the version of UTM that ships Urchin 5.

Yep, but since Urchin 5 can also work with the older UTM, I was wondering which version we were using. You never know with Psoft...

Yeah, I have had those files installed for over two weeks now but they have generated no results.

I called the help desk again and Matt had to enable some other setting to get it to go.

Will go 24hrs to see...

Cheers!

Same here...But was told by Brad that I had to get the files from them..otherwise it wound't work..(I downloaded the files from Urchin). Have had the files from Urchin installed almost for 2 weeks with the same result as you (DVhost).
The Setting Matt did, was that globally or just for you...Would like to know, before I submit a TT.

I suspect it was just for me. His words were "It looks like UTM is on, but, OK, there was just one other setting...".

I also did a file comparison of the __utm.js file as distributed by Urchin, and compared it to the one distributed by Vortech. There appears to be no difference and are the same.

So, whatever setting he changed hopefully, they will begin to work in 24 hours.
