Name server name length - is shorter better?
I am a new customer of Vortech, have yet to switch my domains over.
Right now I am pondering a new DNS (service) domain name. I have electricfox.com (ns. and ns1.) which is also my business domain. But to make my transition easier, I was thinking of buying a new domain, and using this as my service domain. That way I don't have to worry about switching over my electricfox.com domain, while still being able to transfer over my clients. 1) Does this sound like a good plan? 2) Would you recommend a shorter name server domain (5 characters) over a longer one that I like better? (9 characters) Couldn't imagine it would affect speeds at all (?), but is there some other reason to choose a short nameserver/service domain name? 3) Will my customers ever see my service domain name if I want them to see electricfox.com instead? Thanks! |

Brian,
Shorter or longer makes no difference really. Whatever you service domain is setup in H-SPjere is what your resellers will see when pointing DNS to ns.yourservicedomain.com etc, as well as temp urls that they can use to access their sites which will also revolve around your service domain. Say i'm your customer but i want to get my site etup and its on a shared IP.. I could use somthing like: http://tempurl.YOUR_SERVICE_DOMAIN.com to access my site until I move my DNS to your reseller account. If you rreally want your ciustomers to see electricfox.com,, maybe you could get something else like electricfox.net or something like tat,, use it as your service domain,, simply re-direct the domain to electricfox.com
