Network issues
Just FYI, we are aware of the outages and are working to fix everything right now. I'm going to direct everyone here for updates as they become available.

What happened? or do you not know yet?
I'm just looking for something I can tell the president of my company. He is quite computer savy and will probably be in a very bad mood.

I am so tired of my $10 a month clients calling me with "MY GOD MY SITE IS DOWN, IM LOSING MONEY"
just tell them as I do, I have bullet proof hosting, but it runs well over $100 a month. Would you like me to sign u up? If not we are working on our shared server issue and it will be up as soon as possible, I will provide you with a full explanation once its completed. NO, I cant give you an eta because we are still pinpointing the issue.

What, you mean the bullet-proof dedicated servers at VT? We pay them well over $100 per month, and a fat lot of good that did us. I know it's not necissarily their fault, but man, shouldn't the deds be on another network? And in regards to the "some people could see it, really" attempts to get out of the SLA, no one in CA that called me, nor I in Boston to access any of the network services at VT from 11am to 2pm. Around 1pm I could access the vortech site, but it only loaded halfway. Maybe your router assigns priority to your local IPs? Cause it was clearly down on this end. Right, so I guess we're leaving. Hope the network is back up soon so we can grab our database and get out of here. Guess everyone is getting free hosting this month, eh fellas?

The forum never went down. There was 195 people on here. It just depended on where you are and how your connected whether it appeared down or not.

I had friends and colleagues checking the forum from various parts of teh Caribbean and 2 states in the US. Ten people in total. Quite a coincidence that none of us could get it eh? Now I have my biggest client, one of the biggest property dev't companies in my country threatening to leave. So much for growth in my fledgeling business! |

I've been with Vortech for a long time and doing web dev. even longer, and all I can say is if you put your biggest client on server at a host with hundreds of resellers and thousands, even tens of thousands of sites hosted, they must not be that big of a client. I mean, come on, if this customer is so important would you not first think of hosting them somewhere with a more robust SLA? Sorry to rant on you, but come on people. Most of us start out at $35/month to host nearly unlimited sites! What do you expect?! I'm not happy that this happened either, but this is technology man... if this was an every day occurance, I would expect we'd all be gone. But it's not! And we're not! ps - I see you even got Vixen in the thread... I miss the old days when she and I would go at it - oh, I miss those days when I had boundless anger. Not really! ![]() Last edited by jmbeach : 08-23-2006 at 02:31 AM. |

getting a service at price of $35/month doesnt mean that we deserve to have failure over network by flooding or dos attacks. i dont think this is the price matter, because if you even had a dual xeon dedicated server by price of $400/month here, it also be affected by this outage. Admin; dont you think to have any anti-DDOS or anti flood hardware in your network? or maybe better router that you can nul-route the destination ip to prevent all network goes down? |

That was just downright offensive! I never said that I think that Vortech is usually less than efficient. I never said that I never would have thought a problem like this would even happen. As a matter of fact, I KNOW that it was resolved quickly. But partner, if I had gotten an expensive solution, I'd still be in teh same situation. (But good guess that I'm on shared servers!) Anyway, my issue was with the customer service. Not IT service, and that would also be the same no matter where I was hosted. About your comment about the company being very big... I want you to consider that your market is San Diego. I don't know what the population is, but the population in my ENTIRE nation is 1.3 million. A large company here in Trinidad and Tobago has about a couple hundred employees - 300 is REALLY big. And the companies that large do their own hostign services in house anyway. This company has almost 100 employees, AND the cost of these services here (considering that people are now moving into it) and my reality (takingn into consideration that I'm competing with larger companies who have capital to invest etc) means that I pay for what I can afford. Keep your narrowminded views to yourself. As a Caribbean person, I often am insulted when continentals make these statements as though the whole world has multi million US dollar/Euro markets or that their markets are open to young businessmen (under 30) to make easy money! Cherish the US business mentality of "I dont care who did it, just do it". Down here its more like "Let the rich, accomplished people do it" There is a difference between us (islanders) and you (continentals) - as far as business and markets are concerned. I just like to watch the big markets to learn, then adapt, not adopt! Last edited by ekrubonline : 08-23-2006 at 11:26 AM. |

If that is the case (and it very well may be), why did you not post anything about the outage until about 24 minutes ago? |
