multiple domains --> any suggestions?

Hi, I have a client with 4 domains and I'm wondering what the easiest way to set this up would be. I'd like all of them to point at the same files. I anticipate 2 options

1. Domain Masking at the registrar.
2. Possible candidate for a dedicated IP? If I give them a dedicated IP, then I can just enter the same nameservers for each domain. Would this be correct?
3. Are there any other options?!?

Add one as a domain, the other 3 as domain aliases.

That's the best way....could get a little tricky if you start wanting to do subdomains tho.

Ok, how do you do this? I'm not seeing domain aliases as an options under "domains" on H-sphere.

thanks,
nick

You have to select the domain name you want to add the alias too first.

Theres more info in the HSphere manual

I think you also need to make sure you have aliases available in your plan.

One other option. I use godaddy and they offer free domain forwarding.

I use both options. No real difference.

I guess I'm doing it the dumb-way with real domains and using web services "redirect"? :-)

Using Alias's in HSphere should be slightly better performance wise though because your avoiding that "godaddy" hop in the middle of every request.

so then, what do I set my nameservers to for each additional domain? Is that given to me after I make the domain aliases? Just looking ahead...

thanks everyone for your insight!

I'm not seeing any option with H-sphere for creating domain aliases. I click on "domains", and the only choices I have are "domain info", "add new domain", "trace route", "submit URLs".

Then under each of those options, nothing indicates "domain aliases". I've checked my account and I have "domain aliases" checked as an option.

I checked the manual like that you all have posted...perhaps its outdated with this version of H-sphere?!?

You have to be in the domain account

You have to be in the domain account Not in your hosting admin account.

login to hosting account
login to admin
search (click search on the Generic form for a wild card)

login to the domain you wish to add aliases to

go to domains

Add alias

If you don't see that I guess you don't have a minimum Cypher Reseller account like I do. Or ** your Plan that you created may not allow alias. Just add that to the plan by checking Allow Domain Alias

Click on an existing domain in your CP (the domain you want to add the alias too)

ok, i found it. thanks everyone.
One last question...do I check the DNS zone? I'm not quite sure I understand this option. I'm wanting each of the domains to point at the same files on the original domain.

And by doing this, will it "mask"? Meaning, no matter which domain I type in as the URL, that is the domain that will show up throughout a users session? Just clarifying this the features of going this route.

Unless your hosting the DNS for the domain alias somewhere else then yes you would normally tick DNS Zone and then make sure the domain name uses your HSphere nameservers allocated.

Yes the domain you enter in the URL is what will show in the browser if your using aliases, providing you haven't got any links on the site hardcoded to point to a particular domain name ie http://thisdomain.com/page.htm rather than just /page.htm
