We added bl.spamcop.net to the RBL list... It blocks about twice as much as sbl.spamhaus.org.

I think this is the reason for decrease in spam. Comcast has blocked 25 for awhile now

My SPAM is definitely down. ( I am a "power receiver" of SPAM. )

I am not sure I understand about adding to the RBL list. I thought Spam Assasin rated emails and we controlled what got through. It sounds like you are blocking some of the spam that comes from servers on a black list before Spam Assasin gets a look at it. I am not complaining, I think that is fine. I just would like to know how it works when I explain it to my clients.

Sounds like Comcast never implemented a global block on smtp though, this reads to me like they going to be a little more proactive and start looking for abusers to make sure they're blocked.

Didn't SpamCop have vortech servers on some sort of block a few months ago, now you've signed up with them?

I am still against any so called service that takes filtering and control away from end users. The way spammers change tactics and systems/addresses there really is no way to nail down anyone as a dedicated spammer.

2 more cents.

[EDIT]
Though I do see the need for some of that being blocked before it enters the bottle-neck at the hosting level.

Yea they have blocked one of our mail servers before but we can white list our own mail servers and domains.

Spamcop seems to be doing well, I like them better then RBLS like spews that if you get listed they never remove you for 6 months to a year. With spamcop they drop there blocks every 24 hours as far as I know and that seems to work well.

As long as an RBL is reasonable and responsive blocking is just a a fact of life. Comcast def has not blocked port 25 all over. It certainly isn't blocked here. However, I get most my SPAM from out of US. I definitely noticed a decrease tho so far it looks like at least 2/3 of the SPAM I got is no there now. Altho I did pick up a new fax SPAMMER

The link Brangwyn provided indicated (if I read it right) that they are not blocking all port 25's, just those that have lots of outbound traffic. Seems pretty reasonable.

Spam has dropped for me. Thanks Vortech for continuing to be proactive on this issue.

Thought I would let everyone know how I cut my SPAM out by about 95%. I had a domain that I have used since 1995 to do websites for friends, etc. and it was my default for an email address outside of the domain being registered (usually something like [newdomain]@[myolddomain]. Because of the numerous user names, I just used a catchall so that everything would get to me. With nine years of my domain being out there plus some gal that evidently ran her fingers across the keboard and by chance used my domain name as the email domain for a multi-level marketing site (big SPAM generators) - I generally get between 700-1000 spam mails a day. I finally broke down and went through my emails for the past years to determine all the legitamite user names that I still need to receive and created mail aliases (about 35) for all of them. The change was UNBELIEVABLE It cut my spam by about 90-95 %.
