I may be asking a question that has already been asked, but I've been away for a while.

Does this new status system allow for any kind of post monitoring? I really liked how IPMonitor would let you go back, so one could calculate outtages more exactly.

Also, what became of the other monitors, like the mail traffic monitors (cricket)?

Well IP check does everything cricket did so we really did not need it. Takes a lot of time if we have 2 or 3 apps doing one job. With IPcheck we can do like 3 or 4 jobs in one program. I don't think you can see a history from the out side of the system only we can from inside. I might check on seeing if we can add a guest user kind of to the system that can't edit or delete anything. But I think we might move IPcheck to a dual xeon system as that thing can use a LOT of CPU and memory at times.. LoL

yeah, it's really a necessity to be able to check downtime history. If our customers come to us and say their site was down, but we have no way to verify that for ourselves, we're ultimately going to over-burden you guys with trouble tickets asking if a server was down.

And we know that's the last thing you guys need

Yeh, that is what I was saying. That was very useful feature of ipmonitor. Seems like a log or report would be easy to make available. They should definitely add a feature for publishing reports, as well. Does it not let you export? Also, I am a little gray on what exactly the network weather graph does. According to docs a relatively smooth line is good and spikes are not, but that is all I saw. What is it graphing, availability?

frankly, I find that graph pretty useless - in fact, at first I was confused and I signed up or a Paessler account thinking it had something to do with Vortech. Next thing I know I'm signing up to get 2 probe monitors that only refresh once an hour. Needless to say I felt a little duped, and a little embarassed.

Can you guys perhaps change the status page not to show the paessler home page? It's more confusing I think than to just have an overview of your actual monitors.

It sure does, I discovered that myself the other day, had it running on my SBS PDC monitoring about 20 odd boxes and it was hogging a lot of CPU. It's since been removed .. I'll just rely on people screaming at me to indicate a box isn't working again

hehe IPCheck is kinda memory intensive now... When I had a "Custom" EXE ... and that custom being PHP, then it really sucked down the CPU, but you can't blame IPCheck for me thinking that running 50 php processes a second on a PIII 700mhz was OK..

It still hogs memory...

I'm surprised it worked when our DB reached 32GB haha

Its a pretty good program ,got some issues, but I like it...

I am really glad that IP Check is good for you "inside". I don't think it has been very good for resellers "outside". I understand why you don't want multiple boxes pinging servers. But the old monitor worked better for me.

I think the point that is being missed is that any of the monitoring systems we use is for our use, first and foremost. It is a *convenience* for the resellers to be able to view this information and is not made to go on anyone's site. I personally don't like the new system either BUT it's for the techs to use and if it works for them that is all that matters.

It worked better for you. To be honest not ALL host even offer you a system to see what system is up or down. Most I ever used I had to put in a ticket. The system is for our USE only and resellers can use it AS is. I am sorry if you don't like it but there is only so much we can do. If use a system that saves us lots of man hours and does every thing in program I am going to use it.

I have not seen any one show any thing else that could do the jobs IPcheck does. If I could find a program to do all the SNMP stuff with an easy interface and work we would of kept IPmon, but there is no such thing that I have been able to find other then http://www.raxnet.net/products/cacti/ thats about the only other thing and matt hated it..

We mus thave SNMP and something to check services. IPcheck does everything one and alerts us as needed. Thats why we use it. Not because it looks good but because it does the job it should..

I agree.... I've always viewed it as a 'nice to have' feature if 'I' ever want to see whats happening.

In fact I've always used 3rd party monitoring to check status and availability... it's not 100% reliable - probably just habit and that sense of feeling 'independant'.

Well I am going to check IPmon's "new" version 7.0 but I don't think it does all the SNMP stuff like IPcheck I don't think it even comes close.

But I am going to close this post because all of this is off topic really now.

If you want to start a post about IPcheck or IPmon thats fine with me. I like to hear the good and the bad..
