Domain name expired....

Okay my previous host had my domain hi-jacked because they would not allow me to take it off of their shite. And they did not tell me that it was time for renewal. They let it go into expiration. How long until I can reregister it?

Josh, sorry that happened.

To find out the expiration date (the earliest date that you could purchase the domain) and other info, you can do a whois lookup. Since it sounds like you're using linux, you can type:

Code:
whois -h whois.crsnic.net yourdomain.com

Or to get only the expiration date, this might work:

Code:
whois -h whois.crsnic.net yourdomain.com | grep Expiration

You can also go online to somewhere like, http://www.internic.net/whois.html.

I'm not trying to provide any false hope... but consider contacting your [ex]registrar to see what their grace-period and/or domain dispute policies are. And you could always try contacting the new owners. Never hurts to ask, right?

I just did a whois lookup on JoshCombs.com. The expiration date was 07 Apr 2004 and you (apparently) are still listed as the owner. IF this is the domain in question, you shouldn't have any problem renewing the domain right now.

Also, if you wanted this on Vortech, you'd have to update your name servers.

They go into stasis for 30 or 45 days to give the owner a chance to retrieve them. But you usually pay a hefty premium for that privilege.

You shouldn't pay anything for that, I believe much like the NZ Registration rules the TLD registrars are actually required to do that temp stasis by "law" .. if so charging for it is just plain theft imho.
