Question switching from h-sphere to cpanel questions

Unfortunately, I've just about had it with h-sphere, but I like Vortech's support and network speed. CPanel looks a lot more like what I want to offer. It's focused and I like that.

Here are my questions about converting to cpanel:

1. Can I still have ns.mydomain.com?

2. Is moderBill supported (does it work here)? I see unanswered threads in the forum regarding this.

3. The demo link for cpanel goes to ver. 6.2, but the sales info on the matrix site says ver 5. Which is it?

4. Any other issues I should be aware of (besides no autobilling and tt system)?

Thanks much for any insight...

Majorsky,

1. Can I still have ns.mydomain.com?
Yes, but the IPs will change, and you will need to reuqest that they be made, by sending a ticket.

2. Is moderBill supported (does it work here)? I see unanswered threads in the forum regarding this.
You can more than likely make modernbill work, curl is not compiled into PHP like modernbill likes, so it can be a pain. (At les this is my understanding)

3. The demo link for cpanel goes to ver. 6.2, but the sales info on the matrix site says ver 5. Which is it?
I am pretty sure it is 5, the demo link goes to an official cpanel demo, that is why there is a difference in versions, I do not know about upgrading, Mike or Brad should be able to answer that.
4. Any other issues I should be aware of (besides no autobilling and tt system)?
No windows accounts (is that a BAD thing?), IMO it ia harder to use, but most people don't think that. It also is based on usage, so many people like that part. Not much else I can think of.

Thanks again Landiserve (Stephen)!

It would be great to get a definitive answer on modernBill.

Anyone know of a comparable billing system that works well with the cpanel setup?

thx!

Stomp Stomp

My client that uses windows only uses it for CF, if we would get CF on unix (which isnt too stable right now, in the MX form anyway) then he would even use windows.

Just be aware when switching over that your username shows up in everyones CP. When it lists their plan it shows YOURUSERNAME_PLANNAME. Also it shows the server as being cpanel3.nocspeed.com. I don't have a huge issue with these but they are definatly things that would be nice to fix; seeing just PLANENAME and cpanel3.yourserver.com.

I've never designed a cPanel template before but I can't imagine those changes being too hard. Sounds like a fun project, what do you think Alan *hint hint*

Actually, the 'x' skin (not 'xSkin') only shows the plan name. The others I looked at did include your username. I'm wondering if 'x' can be branded. Hmm...

Don't forget that cPanel is one of the biggest security hole for a server and that things are often broken down by lousy patches (Yes, it's worst that Hsphere ).
