Looking for great web designer

Hi,

My knowledge of web programming and designing is zero. My site (careerdowell.com) was outsourced. As you can see, they did a pathetic job. My main parameters for the project were:

1) Low loading time. Reason being that the site is for a population based in India. People there are mostly on dialup except for the few in the cities.

2) Static pages: Someone told me that asp pages aren't indexed because they are generated. Because of this, CareerDoWell.com has over 200,000 pages. Each page is dedicated to a school or college in some part of the world. They were generated by a program. So this way, everything is static.

I'm looking for a developer to undertake the massive task of a TOTAL redesign of the site. Im looking for someone ideally who could do this for under $1500. But if have a higher offer, I'd be willing to entertain it. The site redesign would involve using both of the previous parameters but with a radical new design. The static pages would once again have to be generated by you, by writing a small program (unless you want to manually create 200,000 pages). If you can think you can get the bots to index generated pages too, please do make an offer. Do so by PMing me. Please ask general questions here so I could give an answer that can be read by all.

Actually, I dun think you need to have your entire 200K pages indexed. Just get the few main pages indexed, the rest, you can use ASP to generate dynamic pages. I dun think anyone will ever want to maintain a 200,000 static page website ... it will be a nightmare to do so ... and it's gonna take up way too much disk space.

Well, there are ways of crafting asp (or even php pages) so search engine robots index them without error! You sure deserved a better design team before having spent money on a 200,000 page website! I have seen your site, the content is great but you need a site that builds a thriving community ... and you are right, only a dynamic site using ASP/JSP/PHP can do that for you. PM me or email at sales@amplescope.com to discuss issues at length. Feel free to call me in Delhi at 98101-02854.

We are in New Delhi, India and being locally available, can give great support and cost options.

Looking forward,
Yogesh

Hi,

Using static html pages will only offer you a limited solution to your problem. However, we can create you a dynamic web site in PHP, ASP, JSP. PERL or .NET if you like, - fully administered by an online 'administration system'.
It will create pages on the 'fly - hence the limit created is practically endless. Getting bots to index generated pages is no problem. Personally, I’d recommend using a ‘dynamic’ site as you can easily update and refresh your sites content quickly and easily – and best of all without the further expense of using a web designer should you need to amend items.

Costs vary depending upon your needs, but if you want us to, design, code and generate a new web site and write all the pages as well, for 200,000 pages it's going to have to be a much better offer than .0075 cents per page ($1'500 / 200'000). However a ‘Dynamic’ web site, perhaps where you can ‘cut & paste’ or complete the pages detail yourself is roughly within your budget

Please note: We don’t undertake design work without being in receipt of a 25% deposit, full balance being paid once the final site is ‘agreed’ and prior to going live (all testing / client approval is done via an online test site).

If your interested either post here, PM or email me to discuss a realistic quote for the work.

Wow! $1500?!?!?! Let me know if you find someone that can actually design and program for this price and project scale. I would source ALL of my design projects to them.

I would personally charge no less than $50,000 for such a project.

Now if you're looking for 1 design template that would include your dynamic content with *your* programmers incorporating it in to the website, that's another story...

Good luck.

p.s. A computer, photoshop, and dreamweaver certainly do not make great *designers*. A good example is what you already got for your money.

Stelo, oh come on now, its got to be the free layouts websites that make great designers! And man, what about MS Paint!

Personally, for this project, I would use a PHP template, with the data coming right out of a database. There are ways to do this that the pages don't look like mydomain.com/page?=datasource that search engines won't follow. There are ways to do it yahoo style that do addresses like mydomain.com/page/9393 that work great. Just my two cents, and no I would not do page that huge for $1500 either!

But, out in India I am sure $1500 would speak volumes.

Actually it isnt as big as u think it is. You only have to design about 15 - 20 pages and redo the search engine. Rest of the pages could be generated automatically. You'd just have to design the template. I'd say $1500 is pretty reasonable. Anyway, I put up a bid request at www.rentacoder.com. Max bid amount is $7500. Go back a page or two and you'd find it. I've received about 45 bids.

I've done a lot of research on search engines and dynamic pages can be indexed in a variety of ways. The thought of a site of this magnitude in static pages is mind blowing! If you ever want to change any of the content I would highly recomend moving over towards a dynamic approach.

Unfortunately I'm swamped with my own work at the moment but if you have any questions pertaining to dynamically searchable pages, please don't hesitate to ask!

Best of luck
Nik

I would definately want to switch to Dynamic pages. But im just so sure they won't be indexed. Remember, every one of the 200,000 pages we have are listed at google. I remember that once we had submitted the site to them, they had 2 or 3 bots on our site for days and days indexing pages. Many universities, who don't have their own website, show our page first on a google search. That's how we get traffic and thats how we make money. If we switched to dynamic pages, i dont see anyway they'd be indexed. I'd greatly appreciate if u share your ideas.

heh, I was kinda wrong. It has 30,000 pages and not 200,000. Sorry for the wrong data. So everyone could perform their calculations again. I don't run or maintain the website... so i had wrong info. Project run by a partner - Atul Kumar. Also, you may have noticed that the site has a bad english flavor. A mix of british and american english with grammer mistakes. Reason being that I outsourced the site by someone in Tampa, FL but was maintained and runned by our inhouse counselors and team Terrible site, so much regret. Want to set it straight once and for all.

When I had a site on another hosting service, that is now out of biz, Google even indexed all my forums, and I really didn't particularly want it too, but by the time I saw it was done, it was too late to add the robot instructions. I just took it for granted that it was dynamic and would not be indexed.
